This is interesting. I never been an ideolog like that. I think an all the above approach would be best, shyt even tenets of capitalism insert controls of communism/socialism to make sure it doesn't run amok.
I think different service and product sectors work best with different systems. Sports is helped by capitalism, fire prevention services aren't.
I'm not an ideologue at all.

When I say I am on the fringes of socialism, this isn't to mean I believe in it. I think a practical approach for each society is always the best.

When I said I was a capitalist when I was younger, I meant the crap we were taught in grade school and me not being that well-versed.

When I was growing up I was a pretty typical Democrat like my mom.

When I really started following God I began going away from the dichotomy and questioning everything. I became anti-abortion in principle but I've wavered on the best way to actually govern it. I became far more concerned about the poor and really committed myself to the struggle and the uplift of the entire Black community, but also more questioning of the typical Democrat narratives for how they were doing that. I became very anti-violence, which in some cases is a "liberal" view but really I'm against what both parties do and have never heard a politician reflect my true views on the issue. I also began to understand a lot more how money and especially greed for money and lust for power really ran the world, and ran both parties.

Around 2004 I got fed up with the Dems and began flirting with voting Republican, but decided to fukk both of them in the end. Obama pulled me back and I campaigned for him hard, but he disappointed me rather quickly and by 2010 I was an independent again and I've never gone back. That whole fukking time the Republicans have continued to get worse and worse though, so it ain't like I've had the slightest thought of doing in that direction, especially not since Obama, nor will I ever.

Nope, I've been a pragmatic progressive before I even knew anything much about politics. I was inspired by Obama's candidacy in 2008 as a 9 year old.

I've been a registered Democrat since Election Day 2017 (November 7th). I was 18. I didn't get to vote though until 2018 because NY doesn't allow same day registration.

Your post made me think....

Imagine the quality of youth who are coming of age 2010-2020 and would be inspired to become Republicans in that atmosphere. :picard:

Anyone who doesn't think that Trump is really fukking over his party something serious is deluded as hell. :mjlol:

I used to rock with libertarianism heavy, primarily because of economics and my belief that the govt is often incompetent. And coming up in the South BX and seeing govt stupidity on daily basis and having my cousins make horrible long term decisions reinforced my belief in individualism. But going to law school and seeing the advantages white upper middle class people are playing the game with undermined my belief in libertarian meritocracy econ arguments. Also, libertarians often overstate the utility of a traditionalist lifestyle, especially when it relates to working class and/or Black people. Thus, there are too many parts of the theory that don't synch up with reality and my belief system.

I still wouldn't call myself liberal or progressive though. There are several core economic beliefs on the left that I don't think are tenable. And the increased reluctance to defend/embrace a cosmopolitan lifestyle in order to appease white working class voters irks me, even though on a game theory level I get why they are doing it.

I grew up in a very conservative, religious household and held a firm stance against homosexuality, same sex marriage, abortion, fornication, adultery, etc. I was all in on Islam for three decades.

It was only a few years ago when I did a complete 180 and threw religion, and all its repressive views in the bushes.

I'm now for the freedom, and well being of all which would place me all the way on the left.

I’ve always been apathetic to the political system/politicians, as such I was never idealistic. I can discern what would be nice vs what’s realistic vs what’ll actually happen. As such I’ve pretty much been the same, some things changed like agreeing that min wage should be “$15” (put that in quotes since I don’t know what the real dollar amount should be, but since that’s the figure du jour, I’ll use that) and that we need a health plan available not tied to employment. But I’m still pretty apathetic, I’m fine with doing my best under the rules that currently exist and I’m fine adjusting to something different if that were to ever happen, in any structure I’m going to focus on me and mine :yeshrug:

went from centrist democrat to solid left
This. I don't even know why, because people as they grow older tend to become more conservative and less radical. I have a lot more money and I definitely have more shyt to lose now than before.

It a probably the feeling of this country needing a real change for once.

and i'd say i support further left candidates than my mother so...

i ain't really gotten more conservative and i read the coli almost every day, so that's a borderline miracle.
