I definitely need MS Office. I heard there are some conversion issues with the Mac version tho. :patrice:
I'm primarily gonna use the laptop for web browsing and work. I'll need it for grad school classes and doing work on the airplanes as well.

Oh and it needs to be somewhat future proof. I'm tired of my laptop being :flabbynsick: after two years.

In that case I'd choose something windows based Haswell I7 based, lots of ram and a SSD personally speaking.

Get a 500 dollar dell

Can you give me a link of a good one?

What's Haswell? link?

what screen size?

Not sure. For reference, my work laptop is an HP Elitebook Workstation, it has an 15.6" widescreen. This is TOO BIG to work comfortably on a plane. So I need something smaller.

Quick question, do you think the touch screen is worth it? What's the application? Seems unnecessary if anything.

it makes windows 8 more intuitive. i use it a lot. but all windows 8 ultrabooks will have touchscreens anyways, so you dont have a choice

A Air would do the job unless @Mr Hate Coffee uses any sort of special programs which are windows only.

Personally speaking I wouldn't bother with a touch screen but that's just me.

Yes touchscreen is worth with Win 8.1. You said you wanted to be future proof. You dont have to use it if you dont want too.

Edit: Personally have an Zenbook and I love mine. Great screen, keyboard, long batt life. Its thin and it's made of aluminum and glass. Plus with my Dell Venue Pro Tablet Im all covered when it comes to portability.

Mac are okay, but you can get a good ultrabook for under a 1000, I'll post some when I get to the house I'm on my phone right now.

but none of them will have the durability/reliability of a Macbook Pro breh. In 5 years, I have bought 3 laptops ranging from 500-800 breh. I still need a new one right now :smh:

@Mr Hate Coffee get the Mac Pro breh. Trust me. You will have a laptop for at least a decade, depends on when u wanna upgrade.

Problem with that is you then want a Macbook Pro with Retina display as the Standard Macbook displays aren't even 1080p and then the cost jumps quite a bit.
