This will be my next Latin American trip. I met a group of Peruvian tech workers digital nomading while I was in Mexico City. Chilled & partied with them several nights. Anyways, they said when I slide they’ll hold me down. Looking at January

How is the nightlife & club scene in Lima?
When I was there they were still in a semi-lockdown. You had to wear masks in the street, if not the police would stop you -- so clubs were "officially" shut down.

But calle Berlin in Miraflores is the known spot, and when I was out there my first night walking, a dude asked me if I was Gringo then led me to a rooftop bar and shyt was poppin'. I'm sure during normal times it is even crazier out there.

But yeah Peruvians are just a chill people for the most part, and most folks out there are genuinely happy to see American tourists and always be looking out. Kind of how Medellin was about 6-8 years ago.

@TallMan_J where did you end up going?

Went to Panama/Panama City. Had a good time. Visited San Blas and just explored. Panama City is a nice and well developed place, but as far as excitement and being interesting, it doesn’t compare to Mexico City.

I think that we’re going to hit up Lima, Peru next.

Now? There's political upheaval in Peru right now they had to evacuate americans from Cuzco.

Shows how little world news gets mentioned in the States they had like 5 presidents resign in Peru recently.

Maybe if you mean coming next year shyt might be calmed down but I wouldn't go in the next few months.

Happy to hear that, how was the night life and food? My boy's from Peru and he tells me how sick it is. That's definitely on the my list of places to go.

Nah, breh. It won’t be until 2024, at least. I had no idea about the issues in Peru right now though, and I’m usually up on current events in Latin America.

Night life was boo boo, breh. Not even trying to be funny. Maybe we weren’t going to the right places. We went to a few spots in Old Town, and it was lame. Went to a spot by our hotel downtown, same thing.

I don’t really think there is a huge party or turn up scene in Panama City, and if there is, I certainly didn’t experience it. A lot of backpacking Europeans were drinking a bunch when we were at San Blas though.

The food was excellent. Went to a place called “El Trapiche” and it was fire. Was so good, we went there every morning for breakfast. We also went to an Afro Panamanian spot called “La Tapa Del Coco”, and the food was decent.

The Subway line is simple and basic, but super clean and easy to navigate. We rode that a few times.

There’s a lot of money in Panama City. There was a mall with a big ass Louis and Chanel store by our hotel. We went to another mall (it was called Fashion Plaza or some shyt) and they had every luxury brand store that you could think of. There were Ferrari and Bentley dealerships. All of that.

Ran into many Afro Panamanians. As far as foreigners, it was very diverse. Asians, Eurocacs, you name it.

That goes to show you that our media doesn’t really want us to ingest what’s going on around the world. I hear that there’s uprisings and chaos all over Europe too. Same with Sri Lanka and Brazil.

They don’t want us to see that here in The States, so our media limits how much they actually report on it.

The Nation a Kenyan media company reported on the Speaker drama How much of Kenyan news makes it to america?

Kenya is the number 1 ally of the US in East Africa and the largest economy in East Africa yet they discuss almost nothing about it.

They gave the Kenyan Army 40 million dollars in direct aid and they didn't talk about it at all in the states and that's Your tax dollars.

They just don't talke about america :

The US media doesn't tell you hardly anything about what's going on in the world.

Just seeing this thread. A strong recommendation for Cartagena if Colombia is in anyones vacation plans. Beautiful city, significant Afro-Cuban history, opportunity for day trips by boat in the coast. Also bring sunglasses, the women are so beautiful I was wearing sunglasses 24/7 … the wife was in full security mode.

Anniversary coming up in a few weeks. Going on a vacation. Need advice. We’ve never been to these places/countries. We’ve narrowed it down to these three: Bogota, Medellin (maybe both), and Rio De Janeiro (may try to hit Sau Paulo too).

Circumstances…

1.) Wife is Mexican. Spanish is her first language and I’m also fluent. Neither of us speak Portuguese.

2.) Not really looking to “relax” or chill on a beach. We’re looking for more of a cultural and exploration type of trip. We’re those type of travelers. We love going to Mexico City (one of the biggest cities on the planet) and just checking shyt out.

3.) We’re not huge party types, but when we party, we gets it in. May want to party while we visit. At least a lounge type spot or dancing.

4.) Not trying to stay in any dumps. A pet peeve of mine are dirty and dusty hotels.

Where should we go out of those three? Pros and cons? Advice?

Any other places you recommend? Was even considering Jamaica or Cuba, but Cuba is more of a hassle and paperwork. This is kind of last minute. With Colombia and Brazil, all you need is a passport, if you’re staying less than 90 days.

If I don’t make a decision soon, we’re just gonna go to Cancun. She’s a Mexican citizen and it would be a lot easier/convenient to just go there. I can really tell that she would rather go to Colombia or Brazil though.
My boy and his Colombian wife rave about Bogota. So that's my recommendation. Prob gonna go there myself this year or next year OP
