My thing with authority figures is that they need more than training or degrees to do the job, teacher was technically harsh, judgmental, and abusive. But he is only human so I don't see the need to punish him. The kid still overreacted, it wasn't that bad, and he's wild to think he can act like that in a professional environment.
My mom worked in board of ed for years I think she slammed a kid once. Kids are very disrespectful and hyper. I smacked a kid I was counseling before, but me and my mom have rage issues, so like I said, not a job I can do, surprised my mom was able to retire.
but ultimately, only the kid broke the rules of school and the legal system. Kid deserves a expulsion, that was pretty serious. Don't think legal consequences are necc. though, b/c nobody was hurt physically and based on video, things didn't go much longer.

Your school showed mercy on you, you could have been arrested for assault because choking your gym teacher was assault.
