Everyone had the album, but most of them had a dub. Or in my case, a dub of a dub. Dubs got passed around and sold in HS like they were bootleggers on the ave.

Every album had, despite this, some were actually popping, selling plat or multi within a year or so. While Gnause took 7 years cause he wasn't drawing like that.
But he got on the player wave and changed everything about himself, "successful out the blue". Shout to his hustle

Illmatic is very relevant. That's not my stance. How it rose in relevance is the target. How irrelevant it was to common folk record buyers in 1994 tell its truest story.

This isn't about ME. THIS is about hip hop, esst coast bias, illmatic etc. No, ilmmatic shouldn't of got 5 mics regardless. All while better albums in the same era, from different regions, couldn't get their just due. I bring up her name, because the and nikkas that give credence to her bullshyt, would laugh if any Asian chic, Asian man etc was held up as a viable voice judging hip hop. It's pathetic. If Vlad, right now, made any list about hip hop, grading albums or artists, ya'll would dismiss him even quicker than i dismiss HER.
