Since slavery ended, there has never been a time when the white man wasnt trying to destroy the black family. all of our attempts to establish ourselves, pull ourselves up are sabotaged over and over and over. All welfare did was provide a small amount of help to an issue that was already happening. Here in Canada staying on the reserve with my wife, indigenous people have the same problems as black people. Again, look at the conditions that were given and then expected to function like normal when everything from blockbusting, redlining, segregation, institutional racism etc make it so that while a few of us are allowed to make it, the majority stay at the bottom so that whites can dominate.

Anti welfare stances have been going on since the new deal because if people are actually getting their share of the pie as opposed to big business it doesnt bode well for capitalism as a whole. Some a$$hole from the walton family who doesnt do shyt doesnt deserve more than the poor family who cant afford to eat. Period.

What social media and the internet did do is bring a bunch of outside ideas and opinions into individuals homes. So that probably is more of an influence in people thinking they have more options than they realistically have. An option to get smashed shouldn't be counted as an option. Does the person want to be in a long term relationship with you? More than likely not.
