What’s not hip-hop? How is it not hip-hop?
Breakdancing
Beatboxing
Graffiti
DJing
MCing

Which ones of these elements of hip-hop are being represented by today's "artists?" DJ would be the closest, but that's prominent in EDM and House now

If kids are loving this stuff that's fine. If older cats want to force themselves to believe the music is hitting.... cool. But I'd totally be for just labeling it as another genre

The moment Lil Uzi said he ain't rapping over no old beats on the radio and got a bunch of co-signs it was over

The CompliMINTS is the first that comes to mind

The only reason yall can't find creativity in the genre is because yall don't want to look for it

Imagine if yall were kids in this generation. Yall would dig in the crates like yall did in your youth. The Internet (another boy-girl group) is limitless. There's no excuse

This in itself is the problem. And every single listener was not tasked with digging in no crates.

OP you asking the wrong people. Older people have jobs and families. So when it comes to music they're going to gravitate to their favorites who they know they'll like or an artist who someone else put them on to.
We don't have time to dig. That's why I like that other thread where you post new music. It does the work for me and I occasionally find a dope new artist I like. But my time is finite so I gotta decide if I want to experience something I know is classic or excellent or just new.

until reg is open and the demo on this site is in their 20s....you'll keep seeing Nas, Jay z, Pac threads because that's the pinnacle to most of us. :yeshrug:

From what I see the schools and nonprofits are bringing in Macs and music production software not instruments.

I don’t see it reversing honestly it’s only going to get worse as the software improves and now with AI coming through. These are the new instruments.

Even less people will know how to play music and it will become more specialized as time goes on.

All these software shiit is great and all. And as a old school dj, I hope technology and accessibility can bring back the Black Djs.

But when comes it music, there is a reason why. There hasnt been anything new in music since the late 70s.

Literally everything being done can be found in some old song by someone playing instruments.

This tech shiit is great. But we need folks who can really create to feed the technology.

You don’t consider all the songs with the house beats dance music?

This exact post has been made for 20 years

Rappers aren’t making music to be deciphered by rap nerds on message boards. There is more touring now than ever and every artist is trying to make music that translates to live performances. It definitely makes a different to be outside

Post some examples cause I need to be put onto that shyt. The only BIG "club" song I can think of lately is uzi's I wanna rock and that wasn't house.

There's guys putting out "club" records in NJ/Philly etc....and they're dope but I haven't heard any new house hip-hop type shyt.

only places I hear EDM rap fusion is on playlists on Spotify or Apple Music.

I fukk with phonk a lot and they merge a lot with rappers.

But that shyt is NICHE. who's major that you talking about?

Getting Sturdy, lite feet, hips and all the different regional dances youth do from coast-to-coast on TikTok nowadays is the modern equivalent of breakdancing/b-boying.

The hip hop scene in my city currently is very sample based which is one the staples of traditional hip-hop and the MC'ing component is still there some of these dudes and females can rap others aren't so good but that's hip-hop not everyone was nice back then and not every song needed to be a lyrical flow exercise. It's not a different genre they rapping over samples that's hip-hop.

Nobody is forcing you lame ass nikkas to listen, enjoy your MF Doom and stop bytching

SKEEYEE

I'm not one off those people, but being 40. This shiit is different for our generation and older.

You gotta remember we coming from a period. Where, we didn't have 24/7 access to this music. Shiit most off didn't even live in areas where Rap was played on radio before like 8/9 pm pre 95/96. Hip-hop wasn't the defacto music of Black Music.

Yall gotta take that in mind sometimes

You're trying too hard.

Those lyrical miracle type off rappers where never successful.

And please cut it out, most off these non big acts are barely touring. And have little to no overseas dates
