:mjcry: at yall shyttin on the homie @Mr Hate Coffee

But yeah, others already cleared this up in this thread fam. Nas did more for AZ than any other artist he's ever worked with. The receipts cats brought up are clear as day.

I'm not taking any of this shyt personally fam. The one stars and negative remarks just show how people are.

Like I said, Nas is my favorite rapper so I'm not biased. I also acknowledge that Nas did a lot of shyt for AZ. But nikkas trippin acting like there's NOTHING there in the form of tension between the two over the years. Props to the people who helped educate me on some shyt I didn't know tho.

Nas and AZ did videos and songs AFTER that. Nas has supported AZ more than any other rapper around him.

No one said they didn't...but at one point they had a falling out don't mean they were never cool again or can't do business...a check is a check....they had another one around the time of Aziatic over a similar issue....that was also deaded by the time Street's Disciple dropped but from what I hear they def aren't as close as they used to be common story with Nas.....AZ did business with my peoples back in the day when he needed help promoting the movie "Envy" he was in....real cool cat on and off the mic....AZ like 1,000 other people in the industry thinks Nas moves 'snakey' at times he's entitled to his opinion regardless of how much Nas has obviously done for him.

The World, but from BK
Nas probably was gonna do it until too many people knew and expected it. It's obvious he moves when ever he wants. Don't think he likes much attention. Once people started expecting a collabo album from them at the time, Nas just probably said fuk it and moved on with his life. I dunno, I think its better they never did it. The random appearances on each others' albums was good enough.

nikka the problem is regardless of HOW MUCH a nikka does for someone. If a nikka say no once or twice he’s considered a snake. U know whats snakey? Crab ass nikkas who think like that. U could say the same shyt about AZ NEVER riding with Nas against the nikkas who been tryna shyt on him thruout his career. nikka was quiet as a church mouse during the Jay beef. Yet Nas put him on the album. And still returned the favor for AZ’s next album. Bottom line is u making shyt something that it isnt.

So....because Nas did 'so much' for him AZ is suppose to be a dikkriding robot for Nas, never disagree no matter what and not be his own man? What kinda weirdo cult-like shyt would that be?

Its a little deeper than 'saying no' when the situation was reversed you always hold it down for them but can't get that same love in return...repeatedly

AZ is a dope rapper. Top one percent. Nas is Shakeapear on wax. Top one percent of the top one percent. One was great for the moment while the other is a cultural landmark.

The H
9 lives was dope Aziatic was classic and undeniable was great yall buggin
Blood I bought 4-5 of his cds..still have em stashed somewhere
Son can rap but his shyt ain't for everyone
He got no hits..a lot of fillers in his albums

I played songs like What Ya Day About, what's the deal nonstop but they weren't hits..
Its hard to make hits with his style.. unless you do some Pun shyt
G Rap fell off for a reason
Beats were an obstacle too..nikka wasn't fukking with big time producers

shyt I even tried listening to his Quiet Money projects but I couldn't fukk with it.. his squad can't rap and beats are trash

Nas could probably put him on Mass Appeal but son would probably turn that shyt down

nikkas forget that the same shyt they criticize Nas for is the very reason why he is still relevant today and has been able to sustain the illustrious career that he has had so far.

If Nas would have made Illmatic Part Deux with Qtip, Premo, Large Professor, and Pete Rock he’d be AZ status today.

The trackmasters gave him HITS. Which, believe it or not, is crucial to a mainstream career. Steve Stoute gave him HITS. Working outside of his comfort zone or being willing to work with new producers or unknown producers actually has benefited him tremendously. Ron Browz wasn’t a household name when Ether dropped. LES wasn’t on anyone’s radar when Life’s A bytch dropped. Salaam Remi wasn’t Timbaland status when Made You Look was sizzling. People bytched about Nas working with Will I Am on Hip Hop Is Dead and Will gave him some of the best production on the album.

Nas has about 8 bonafide HIT (meaning mainstream) records to his name. Records that the average rap fan would know and bob their heads to if it randomly came on the radio. Thats to go along WITH his critically acclaimed albums, street records, and “Hip Hop Head” records. His catalogue is very diverse.

AZ has ONE hit record (Sugar Hill) ONE album that made any type of mainstream noise (Doe Or Die) and ONE bonafide classic guest appearence (Life’s A bytch) and thats no diss to AZ, who is, based upon skill, easily a top 25 rapper to ever grace a mic (hell he might be top 15) but his catalogue unfortunately doesn’t back up his skill level. Nas literally has something for everyone; Big records, street records, storytelling records, deep and introspective records, records that push the boundaries of Hip Hop, “Rappity Rap” records. You go to a Nas show and he can easily entertain you for close to two hours.

Can AZ do that?

Questions I have for NY/older cats:
Why didn't Sugar Hill launch AZ into superstardom? I remember hearing it all over the radio. It's about a good of a single one can ask for in their career.

Great single, but wasn't commercial. Probably didn't do a ton outside the East, either.

Why wasn't AZ seen on Nas' level? He's got the lyrics, flow, and even has the look.

Nas' hype was otherworldly. Like 50 Cent buzz, but without the corporate backing.

Has there ever been any public beef between the two? (i.e. Did Nas feel some type of way about AZ being in Jay-Z's "Dead Presidents" video.)

No

This is all just theory and an attempt to get some real hip-hop discussion going. Nas is my favorite rapper alive but I always wondered why AZ was underrated.

He probably would have if he made an It Was Written type commercial album with a bunch of radio friendly singles. It wasn't a lack of skills.
