I don't think Hip-Hop is in a good state but 1 of the main issues is that listeners aren't really expanding to listen to other artists.

There's plenty of decent music out there if people actually looked for new music.

I disagree. There are so many niche artists that sell out tours instantly nowadays.

I never even know when things are coming out, let alone find out about new up and coming artist.

Stopped giving a fukk about hip hop after 96. If it wasn't for Kendrick and a few andre 3000 verses, I'd be done with hip hop.
Music has been great, even better than before. But hip hop, meh...the very few great artists transcended it, to the point where you even wonder if hip hop isn't a less talented musical genre...

It's actually in a good state, but the skills gap between the top dogs and the rest is huge... the top dogs are learning new skills, evolving, growing, becoming great "artists".

When art is art for the sake of creating it, it loses its purpose and meaning.

It was a voice with a message. The lives it reflected was it's lifeblood. Now, is it reflecting or projecting? From party songs, street tales, cautionary tales, coming of age, vivid story telling, love poetry, politics, ethical conundrums etc. Now the music sounds the same and everyone complains about it.
