The revisionism regarding the nWo is funny. That angle had a shelf life of a few months at best if they didn't have Sting as the protagonist. People really pretending that the nWo were interesting enough to carry an 18 month angle with any marginal "star". Like you could have switched out Sting for facking Sid or Giant or whoever and it been just as hot
nWo segments that didn't involve or reference Sting were 90% trash. Those long boring Hogan promos
That's really what people were excited about in WCW in 97 
Like, people are REALLY in here claiming that you could have an 18 month nWo vs Sid feud and dominate the wrestling world with that.

Yeah it was cool at first. Hogan being heel and shytting on the fans. Hall and Nash bringing some grimey shyt into the cartoony world of WCW, doing beatdowns and whatnot. By 97 the nWo was wack as fukk outside of Hall and Nash. Sting kept them relevant.
You can see how WCW's ratings started trending upwards in 97 when the storyline was more focused on Sting, after being relatively flat in late 96 when it was more about "Omg check out the nWo, Hogan is with Razor and Diesel and he's a bad guy now".
