Hot take: I don’t like the song “Thriller”

Man, I'd shake your hand right now.

For years, people have had me thinking I'm legit crazy for loving that song.

They say it's literally the worst song on Thriller and an absolute throwaway. I'm like HOW?

What are y'all listening to?

Those people are absolutely crazy

The funky baseline, the plush sounds that combine with it, and how MJ just flows on that beat, the sound of joy he has when singing. shyt is pure heaven


Songs that are "too busy" with alot in the background usually won't be my favorite songs... I think I love Baby Be Mine because it's stripped down. Just 2-3 instruments, and MJ's voice. Those are my favorite type of songs, it's why I feel Lady of My Life is my 2nd favorite song on the album

Thriller album as a whole was just okay for me. It's the Bad album that had me like this nikka is the one.

I'll take it another step further. Jam, Black or White, Just Good Friends are some other wack ass songs he dropped in his prime. I also hate all his attempts at remaking Human Nature. Heal the World, Earth Song etc all of them joints are instant skips.

I like Earth Song but outside of that

if Black or White is playing somewhere I’ll be vibing.

Even if I thought the song was mediocre (which I don't), it gets elevated so much by the bridge and Vincent Price's rap.

It’s not a great song to me either…but I do FF to the bridge and Vincent‘s part.

I was never really a fan of the song. But especially not now that I know:

1. …Quincy admitted he jacked the main bass line from “Give It To Me Baby”. I can’t unhear it
2. (It may just be a conspiracy theory, but) it sounds like he’s singing about fuccing, and that makes the whole thing funny to me

Nah the song really good. When you take into consideration only the musicality of it.

If you add that its become a novelty during this season, and the video is a bit cheesy in hindsight. It can be considered a bit overrated.

But for the time, im sure it was majestic and innovative.

Just imagine if the song never had a video. It would seem like an out of place weird song on an otherwise great R&B album about love.


That said, it was an incredibly unique song for it's time

I think this is my gripe with the song. Besides the title of the album, Thriller is a random ass song that doesn’t really have a place. It was an epic song back in 1982 as it still is today, but I’m really not trying to hear it outside of Halloween time. It really is one of those “you had to be there” type of things, because the song is simply astounding.

Never really liked “Thriller” as a song, it was always about the video and choreography for me. I absolutely hate hearing it in a mix (party, gym, radio) and it’s not a song that should get played beyond the month of October.
