This is true and true for other demographics as well; however, the question is will it hold when a Democrat gets in power or will it regress back to it's previous state of complacency? Hell, if a less offensive GOP candidate like Marco Rubio is elected will there still be a heightened level of political engagement and scrutiny?
The job isn't finished just because the election cycle has come to an end, but that tends to be the mentality. Trump is an outlier so the heightened political engagement/awareness isn't surprising due to the increased level of uncertainty. However, it remains to be seen if he's actually broken the system's elasticity regarding this complacency.

Hillary wouldn't have done much to move the needle for black/middle class people. She woulda played allot of lip service but ultimately black people and the country as a whole woulda been in the same place at the end of her term.
With trump the fukkery is so acute that big changes are coming. The press are actually doing their job. More people are paying attention to politics and the effects of voting/not voting. After all these years of being told it's the democrats/blacks/Mexicans at fault for the failures of this country. Now we get to see the whitest of white conservatives in full control being utter failures and idiots.
