Like what exactly? I feel like there's ways around expensive things. Going to Community College, buying cheap $15k Kia and driving till the wheels fall, not buying a new smartphone every year

They should just pull themselves up by the bootstraps, huh:mjpls:?

Everything cost so much more than it used to. All these extra bills people did not have before.

My parents telling me they had 2 bedroom apartments for like 5 bills, no cable bill , no internet bill, no cell phone.. etc

Life is too expensive and when you see people doing nothing but scamming for it noone wants to kill themselves for the same life.

Plus man is not naturally made to do the jobs that pay the most.

Idc who you are. Need money to make money. Period.

Social media has bridged what used to be a social divide between the rich and the poor. It used to be that the rich peacocked amongst their own. But now their peacocking is accessible to the masses. This has created a false sense of self for many non-wealthy people who think because they have access to these folks via social media, that they are on par (think of all the instathots that view themselves as socialites because they try to emulate the lifestyles of the Kardashians). This false sense of self contributes to delusions of grandeur, which causes people to not know the difference between needs and wants or necessities and luxuries. It all leads to financial illiteracy and mismanagement.
Facts!
You could even argue that this phenomenon was spawned by television. Social media just took it to unseen heights

Hyperconsumerism, living above one's means--these are the biggest culprits that can be placed on the shoulders of the individual and can be corrected.

Taking care of family, medical expenses, and things like that are factors that some have to contend with that you really can't avoid. These things are just flat-out expensive.

Bay Area
Considered low income (paying bills and saving nothing) in San Francisco: $117k/year
Median family income in the San Francisco: $118k/year

Thats not much wiggle room for a random bill to pop up, a kid gets sick or breaks an arm (depending on your medical insurance), a random car maintenance.. maybe your washer/dryer go out... taxes.. etc.. God forbid someome misses a pay check :mjlol:

Cost of living has risen too much and too fast.. I havnt seen a new house built in the past 5 years under $550k even in the outskirts of the bay area..Most are $600-800k... Where are all the $200-300k houses? Maybe 1 bed room condos in the hood.. But I havnt seen development in any areas like that in a long time..

Cable, cell phone, gas, rent/mortgage, clothing shyt even "cheap" services like Netflix have risen over 50% since 2008.. (Netflix originally was around $6-7, now $14).

My comcast bill in 2008 was $120, now $220 -- and without a home phone.. Gas was $2/gallon now $4/gallon if you need examples..

But wages havnt doubled.. its really just not much thought into why people struggle, just ignorance

I make amazing money and every day I still feel I should have more. I dont feel comfortable at all and im well into 6 figures a year :mjlol: I could fix up a few habits (trips to vegas :lolbron: ) but everything is so expensive anyway.. I got pulled over for a license plate missing in the front of my benz, $25 bill. I forgot about it (my fault). The bill for missingi t came back $490 :what: why such a large % increase :what: you telling me they couldnt just double it to $50? Lesson learned. They increased it almost 2000% :laff:

what is the point of California taxing 2000% on a minor fix it ticket :laff: now imagine I wasnt making the money I make.. that shyt could financially cripple someone for months, a $500 extra expense and they making like $15 a hour :wow:

just as an example :hubie:

edit: as I head to the gym, 10 years ago my 24 hour membership was $9 a month prepaid ($200 for 2 years)

its now $47 a month :pachaha:

All because 24 hours added "towel service" to most gyms in California to call them super sports and they no longer allowed prepaid from Costco memberships access to them :pachaha:

loopholes. By them just adding towel service to most of their gyms, it allowed them to rebrand their current gyms that I used to have access to. Amazing.

a 6x increase on my gym bill alone. Has your income increased 6x? 4x? 2x? No. Really stupid thread when I think about it.

I encourage all to embrace the struggle and the failures. Alot if good and growth come from them.

Also often times you should ignore the bitter criticisms posted on here. Everybody is fighting a battle. If you're breathing you're often in a few life struggles. Alot of brehs are angry and havent embraced themselves so they lash out and rub your failure in your face because they havent accepted their own failures yet. The comments that build you up are the ones who share their experience and what they learned from it without putting you down or beating you over the head in every post they make.
