S-A was pressured economically and diplomatically, but no foreign power and the ANC didn't fire a shot to get them to "give up".
H-K was ceded to China because parts of it was already on lease for 100 years and the lease was running out. They could have held it anyway, but they weren't comfortable with the illegality of it. As far as is known, no threats were made by the Chinese.
Macau was ceded (under negotiated terms) because Portugal stopped being a dictatorship and they wanted to get rid of all their foreign possessions and stop being an empire. That's how Mozambique and Angola ultimately gained independence.

Yes it means they gave up power. Because they could have just become a pariah state. But they made the bet, with the right insurrances from the other side, that they could relinquish power and most of their other privileges would remain with the added benefit of the country's economy growing again. No Mugabe-changing-terms-of-the-agreement type of switcheroo and turning the whole country into shyt. Over 20 years and still holding.
China 30+ years ago was not the China today. The UK has kept every other piece of foreign land they have, sometimes with war (Falkland War, during the HK retrocession negotiations no less).
Portugal was the last holdout with decolonisation. They were rather brutal too and could have held on longer through force. Revolutions happen.
