How come white players like Jokic and Luka don’t translate to increased viewership and ratings for the NBA?

Oakland isn’t the market, the Bay Area is, and it’s the #6 media market :skip:
You’re right right. Bay Area includes Oakland, SF and more.

But I stand by my statement media and sports markets aren’t the same. Dallas had a bigger market than the Bay Area but they struggle attract big free agents and Luka isn’t the draw that Lebron and Steph is nationally.

And then the answer that’s been prevalent is the nba isn’t a popular as……. :lolbron:

We lucked out with Steph becoming what he is and Iggy singing here, before him, we never got free agents. Now that we have a legacy of winning, maybe someone else will sign here, but I’m thinking a Durant level signing will still be the anomaly for us. We may get a washed Lillard on some “coming home tour” in 3-5 years :pachaha:

Same with Houston. Only star that signed here was Dwight. Nba is weird like that. No other sports really have trouble singing big time players to the top 10 market if the money is all the same. Even Miami struggle to attract the big time names. If you ain’t La, Ny(not even including Brooklyn or new yersey, or La, it’s a struggles to steady the bigger names

Nash - it wasn't his South African/Canadian background....it was because he let his liberal political views slip through. Instantly white people took a step back

Dirk - a 7'0", laid back German that prefers sistas? Nope. Watched Dirk's whole career living in Dallas and those white girls LOVED Dirk but he wasn't checking for them like that. They never cheered for Michael Finley like that.

If Luka/Jokic were English native speaking Euros....like Scottish/Irish/English....they would definitely get more hype. Imagine some dude sounding and looking like Braveheart doing tomahawk jams. White Americans would love that shyt. Eastern Euro = old Eastern Bloc = don't truss em

White American hierarchy = white English speaking North American > English native speaking Euro > multilingual English speaking North Euro > Eastern Euro/Southern Euro
@IsThatBrothaMouzone? if Michael Jordan back in the 1990s would have let his liberal political views slip through would white people have taken a step back from him?

If they were both typical american born and raised, white anglo saxon protestant (wasp) with conservative views, Chad-like good looks, relatable personalities, nationalist proclivities and good old boy cultural sensibilities, they would be among the biggest stars of the country. On their own, they would bring to the nba, massive demographics who traditionally shun the nba :mjpls:......(maga/conservative crowd, racists, people who ONLY watch college basketball/college sports, older whites etc)

AND people who arent hardcore sports fans( most women, casual sports fans, pop culture fans, people who root for athletes because they relate to their backgrounds and love their personalities, the curious, the people who never watch sports usually but are willing to make exceptions to watch exceptions :mjpls:, the " i only watch sports for the main events -like olympics- and the storylines" etc)

@Soldier dope post, real shyt!!

@Soldier why did MAGA/conservative whites and whites who only watched college sports love Michael Jordan so much? And why did they love OJ Simpson so much??

Jordan and OJ Simpson were seen as "safe negroes". A good amount of white americans lost interest in the NBA after 1998 (Jordan left) because of the rise of the HipHop generation that Iverson would carry the torch for into the 2000s.

Two small market teams who haven't won anything. Bron and Steph both still the faces of the league. What stories are there to tell except they both are having good seasons? It's gonna be even funnier when Jokic wins 3 MVP's and casuals still really won't know who he is.
Dallas isn't a small market, and they have a championship.

The people who would care about there being white stars in the NBA don’t actually watch the NBA in the first place is the thing.

They used to or they would. This has already been put to test

and

When I used to listen to WFAN and most of the white people that would call in basically admitted in coded language that while they followed NHL, NFL, MLB; they only watched NCAA basketball over NBA because NCAA basketball still has great white american players:mjlol:

Conor McGregor has carried the UFC that caters to conservative cacs for years and he isn't American. It's all about personality and charisma. McGregor has the it factor and it helps that he is a euro from a country that speaks English while Jokic and Doncic are from Eastern Europe
