Amil couldn't thrive without other people on her tracks. She could never carry a solo joint on her own and didn't have the moxie or charisma to be a solo artist in the same manner that someone like Eve, Foxy, and Kim had. Just look at early interviews in the 90s where you'll read that Amil never wanted to be a solo artist - she preferred to be in the background with Major Coins - or a supporting artist.
Combine that with never having the appropriate work ethic to match her ego and the fact she was pregnant around the time Blueprint was released too. All those things marked her downfall.
The only defense I do have for her is that Jay & Dame had no idea on how to market Amil and R&B artists (see: Christion, Rell). They realized the hip-hop street team approach to marketing doesn't work with pushing R&B acts and doesn't work with pushing a female rapper like Amil.
Def Jam didn't really do it either outside of Foxy - which is why all of them signed to Columbia. But there was record label drama at Sony/Columbia - especially surrounding Cam'Ron - which Dame got involved in. Amil got her record out, but I'm sure her sophomore album would have had issues too.
