Are you serious right now? Having a personal manager (Ib) doesn't change the fact that Roc Nation manages him, promo, tour deals, etc. That's literally how Roc Nation works, with everyone. Who do you think brokers deals with the NBA?

He has a distribution deal on Interscope. He's an Interscope artist. Which means he gets the benefits that come with that. This "machine" the Coli talks about.
That's not how RocNation works. There's a label, publishing company, AND management. I'm not denying he gets the benefits of the machine, but he's signed to the RocNation label, which has a distribution deal with Universal. At this point it's a licensing deal with him.

You are either confused or you work for the Interscope PR team.

Check the credits on KOD:
© 2018 Dreamville, Inc., Under exclusive license to Roc Nation Records

Interscope is nowhere to be found...

I don't work at Interscope anymore, and haven't for years. It is a fact that J Cole signed to Interscope, and his album was released under that umbrella.

4YEO was his first Interscope project under this deal, KOD is the second.

If RocNation was his sole label deal, why did he sign to Interscope for distribution? Because Roc Nation is largely a management and promotion company in entertainment. They are a label, sure. But they aren't THE label. Columbia (i.e. Sony) was Cole's label first, now its Interscope.

Are there "machine" benefits to signing to Interscope? Of course. But the fact remains that the label does not make you hot. Cole had a shyt ton of promo. His album did very well obviously but it didn't blow up like some thought. Saying that's because he doesn't have a machine - which is what a poster claimed, and sparked my initial response - is pure bullshyt.

You're wrong.

RocNation is the label. Sony was the distributor, and now it's Universal.

I'm not worried about the rest. Cole made himself hot. Not RocNation, not Sony, and damn sure not Interscope.

J. Cole never cared about the charts. 4YEO didn't even have any real singles. He's all about touring because that's how and why he blew up the way he did. It's why he defied radio. He never was into that. He's currently at a point to where he knows his albums are going to sell platinum regardless and he uses his songs purely to set up his nationwide/international tour. It is also why he makes more than any other rapper in the game right now, because he tours excessively. He rarely takes breaks. That is what he's all about now.
He doesn’t make more money than any other rapper

He doesn’t tour more than any other rapper

He does care about the charts

he’s right. J Cole, j electronica are signed to roc nation. Not as management, but the actual label.

He was the and only artist signed to roc nation until jay electronica. Everybody else is managed by roc nation. The distribution was thru Sony/Columbia

He might have switched his distributor up from Sony to Interscope, but his record label is still roc nation

And jay for instance isnt signed to a label either. He’s signed to roc nation

Roc Nation on paper is the label, but they do everything but work as a regular label for J. Cole. Their main involvement they have is setting up and promote his tours. It's no different from Kendrick technically signed to Aftermath, but the Aftermath label since GKMC haven't really been involved with Kendrick Lamar, it's been mostly the relationship between TDE and Interscope. Dreamville and Interscope is pretty much no different. Roc Nation and TDE basically play the middle men in setting up, funding, and promoting their respective artists.

Idk bro. When Cole was coming up u never ever heard him discuss interactions with the label at all. It was about his interaction with roc nation and Jay-Z. They was the ones to green light his projects and stuff. Not the label. The label was just there to distribute he project.

Cole not signed to Dreamville tho, he signed to roc nation, Dreamville is his actual labels his artist is signed to

Well that's not much true at all. In the beginning, and a lot of people, even as far back as in the SOHH days, were clowning at the fact of how much non-involvement Jay-Z had with J. Cole. Whenever J. Cole spoke about Jay-Z, he mainly stated about the mentorship and not necessarily overseeing the album itself. J. Cole always maintained that Roc Nation allowed him to do whatever he wanted and his problems were with Columbia, the label that he was really signed under. And it was Columbia that kept pushing his 1st album back, and demanding a profitable single and so forth. And it was in part why he never resigned with Columbia and created his own record label with Interscope distributing. Dreamville Records has zero relationship with Roc Nation. All of the artists under Dreamville, Bas, Cozz, Earthgang, J.I.D, and Ari Lennox has nothing associated with Roc Nation whatsoever. The only exception is J. Cole. But J. Cole IS his own artist of Dreamville, that's why on the back of the album covers of both 4YEO and KOD is why you see Dreamville, Roc Nation and Interscope.

His current situation is the exact same as Kendrick with the ONLY exception is that he actually runs his label while Kendrick does not run TDE. But just like Kendrick is part of TDE, Aftermath, and Interscope. Same with J. Cole with Dreamville, Roc Nation, and Interscope. Roc Nation serves as the middle man handling mostly the big touring events, the promo, the connects with advertisers and so forth. They have nothing to do with control how and when J. Cole releases an album, singles or outside projects such as the HBO documentary that he does.

Nah u definitely wrong. If they only managed him they would have just signed him up a management deal and keep it pushing.

The clown came from jay not being appearances with him, getting on his single and shyt.

The label people he was always referring to was roc nation

“Up in hov office like he the fukking principle, set me in with Star gate, that shyt was like detention now”

If it’s just management why put him on tour, feature him on bp3. He was signed to roc nation and needed clearance, just like Jay electronica would need clearance to get a release.

Columbia is there for distribution bro.

Jay is just not hands on with the label like that, he has other people handle it, but Cole needs 100% clearance from roc nation before he drops a album. He is signed to they label and not management, same way jay is signed to roc nation and has a distribution deal with another label.

You are going to stop being a fan just like that?

Did it with Lupe :manny:

And I can’t even make the argument for Cole like I can for Lupe that at least he is still TECHNICALLY sound as ever and he just makes music that is unlistenable. Cole just been deteriorating (TO ME) all across the board. Can’t be one of those nikkas who keep listening to the new shyt (besides the initial listen) and complaining about wanting the old _____ back so Ill just listen to the old ish from time to time and mull on what could have been (in my eyes) :hubie:
