Are people ready to admit the "No singles" approach can be effective. Ye did 330k, Jay did 530k with no real single. Sure we heard "New Slaves and Black Skinheads" and we heard the beats from MCHG but there wasn't really that BIG Single to push it. It seems that had the reverse effect on the public and had them anticipating Ye and Jay's album more. The problem was "Yeezus" didn't hold up critical amongst the public so the numbers dipped. We'll see how Jay holds but he's already got 1.5 Million in the bank. BP3 sold 1.98 Million it's whole run.

its funny too because just 2 years ago when WTT dropped there was the whole "jay piggybacking off kanyes hype & acclaim to stay relevant" talk :laff:

Magna Carta - 528k first week
Yeezus - 328k first week

For everyone saying that IDJ or Universal or whoever bought copies, if you're gonna throw that theory out there then you might as well just stop talking about sales, because if they're doing it for Jay (doubtful but I'll play along) then they're doing it for everyone, including your favorite artists who you think are putting up legit #s .

I was waiting for someone to say this. I was thinking the same thing. There was so much talk about Jay riding KanYe's coattails. Well Ye didn't have a single credit on "Holy Grail" and Jay wasn't even on "Yeezus" so what's the excuse now? Jay has and will always be a bigger artist than KanYe and a better emcee I might add.

Why would Jay need to "Buy" copies when he's Platinum already? He probably made more money off the Samsung deal then he will off album sales. I understand with "Carter IV" it looked fishy but I don't see this as fishy when Jay made his money off samsung already.

I think people are underestimating how much the PUBLIC likes the album. And no I'm not saying "Sales = Quality" but I think there is a difference from how the Public feels about the album then the critics. "Yeezus" got critical accliam but I feel the Public was lukewarm on it. Where as "MCHG" got mixed reviews but people are calling this Jay's best album in years. So "MCHG" is probably going end up going 3x Platinum when it's all said and done. Remember he hasn't even official released a single. And we all know he has about 5 songs on here that can be big singles. Also believe it or not the only reason "Blueprint 3" was so big was cause the singles were huge. The album cuts were lukewarm.

all there needs to be said...close thread

Just to troll.... You could argue that with Mike Dean and Travis Scott on tracks that there was still a Ye influence especially Crown.
