I've seen plenty of white, east Asian and south Asian coworkers/friends making $100k+ but live with their parents until they're ready to get serious with someone they are dating. Parents make them pay some bills and clean up the house but they might pay cable bill, buy groceries and maybe get the light bill. Instead of trying to pay rent, they just stack cheese. Get married and buy a house all at the same time.

Most black kids, our parents can't help us and sometimes we have to help them financially. Literally starting from scratch every generation. Jody's momma is a good example of someone that had kids too early, did the basics of making sure the child survives but didn't really give that child the tools to thrive. Survive =/= Thrive. She didn't have kids when she was ready and felt like she missed out on her "fun" because of Jody. A 30-something or early 40-something trying to make up for lost time. Parents that have their kids later and plan things out, they want to help their kids because they got all the wild shyt out of their system before they made babies.

Jody needed tough love, but he needed a hell of a lot more than that.
