I feel you and appreciate the serious reply, amongst a board of so called 'hip-hoppers'. I think Kendrick can be lyrical in an invoking emotion type of way, obviously without the charisma of someone like a 'pac, but less MC 'lyrical' ala getting washed by Jay Elec. Good lookin breh.

Good thread, glad someone is keeping it Hip Hop around here among the TMZ threads :salute:

jay elect shyts on kendrick :mjlol:

kendrick is faux lyrical, faux deep and faux militant. i dont like how he is being forced down my throat even tho his music gets no play in my car or anybody elses. he gets no play in parties except that one swimming pool song. only nerds who sit at home with their headphones on actually listen to kendrick.

I like his projects, bought GKMC and TPAB

Lyrically he kinda overrhymes

And his fans treat him like women treated chris brown before January '09.

How does that not apply to Jay Electronica? He spent the good part of the last 3 years playing xbox in a mansion among one of the biggest piece of shyt WHITE families in the entire existence of this planet while doing this faux against the system, break the masters chains type lyrics breh :snoop:

Shouldn't derail the topic though because people's definition of lyrical is different so it's interesting for people to share.

Yeah, this forum have so much hate going around that when ever there is a serious music discussion going on people instantly get defensive and provoked.

I joined this message board cus I love talking to people with different opinions about what I love. But when ever there is serious discussion it quickly get derailed where people start feuding instead of speaking on the topic.

LOL fair enough.

Jay Electronica is more 'lyrical' than Kendrick for sure but I think he's 'too wordy' No super lyrical song is going to get played at any party really. No one is trying to drink/smoke to this and girls def are not dancing to lyrical songs...

well one part of it, only a small part though, is the timing & his mainstream peers (back then and now). when he started blowing up (around 2011-12-ish) there was no (newer) rappers who were rapping what he was rapping about in the mainstream... I'd say his subject matter & approach as an artist was more serious & lyrical than the mainstream music that was dropping in the late 00s/early 10s.

But also, lyrically his style is closer to Pac & maybe Nas who are more known for storytelling & "painting pictures" and less for punchlines or 'witty' wordplay. Like I'd say that Soulo or Rock is more likely to say some clever/witty line on a "cypher" type of song from their own camp. shyt, I'd say that on the songs where it seems like they're trying to out rap each other, Jay Rock usually has the best verse. Imo Kendrick is at his best when he's doing his own music his own way, where as mc's like Jay Rock may steal the show more often as a guest mc (not sayin Kendrick can't/hasn't done that, just that he's not similar mc, he's more likely to give u a hot song than a hot line (or a hot verse)).

like, these lyrics about "Control" & Kendrick weren't a reach to me, despite him being my top5 favorite artist out right now (and he has been for like 4-5 years)

"So all that shyt is revocable, from an overview
Only thing noticeable is how he barely gave me any quotables
I state facts, not to say it's wack but check the playback
Outrhyming A$AP ain't showing me where your weight at"

How am I catching feelings?

By starting off with a SirBiatch personal instead of just getting into the heart of the matter.

I have nothing invested. I enjoy discussing hip hop, thats all.
Normally this is where people throw shyt on you (which you want), but I wont. Since I seriously want to know your opinion.

Receipts?

Do you want to discuss SirBiatch or Kendrick being lyrical? Pick one and let's run with it.

And I want you to defend your statement by pointing out what is "middle school poetry" with Sing about me (the lyrics is on the screen in the video).

(its more to lyrics and poetry then out of context lines from a storytelling song you know)

Its up to you to defend your statement by answering my question. Not make me do the work for you. I have already a post in here saying why I think Kendrick is lyrical, its up to you to argue against it.

 Breh, I've had this convo so many times on The Coli I don't wanna waste my time anymore. Especially when you're posting entire songs.

I will answer your question when you frame it properly. You're not gonna frame some cliche vague question and have me invest way too much time into answering it. Nah. This isn't how it works. An entire song is way too much wiggle room for y'all to deflect and run. I analyze one part, you tell me I missed the other parts (which you won't specify of course) :russell:

Get specific or don't bother.

But you just did what simple trolls do. When ever they are cornered with a serious question they deflect by making the other person do the work for them. And when that is done they keep deflecting to make the other person do more work over and over again.

Answer my question with out deflecting or you have once and for all proved that you are a troll that you cant engage in a serious conversation.

I have proved myself of being serious by posting a argument why Kendrick is lyrical, now its up to you to do the same.

Here you go again with the struggle personals. But your feelings aren't hurt :mjlol:

And :russ: at handing me an entire song, then going "here" as some sort of argument.

I know i got the banks avy but banks punchlines>kendricks and im fans of both
Yea but thats all banks can do and to keep it funky he hasnt been nice with the punchlines since gunit was relevant.

Also, unlike lloyd banks he actually has something to rap about. Lloyd banks entire career is one big freestyle.

But he's a top tier songwriter with the most well crafted verses and concepts among his peers. Vivid storyteller and is diverse in the flow category
This. If you asked Kendrick yourself if he thought that he was the best lyricist out he'd say no.

You're confusing being a more effective communicator with being a lyricist. In the hip hop context, people view lyricists as people with the hottest lines and who put their words together the best.

I think you are confused thinking that an effective communicator and a lyricist are some how some mutually exclusive things.

To be an effective communicator you need to be able to put your words together well and in a way many people can understand directly.

To be someone who gets their point across while rhyming you need to be able to put your words together well and in a way many people can understand directly.

Can you tell me why this is lyrical....

but this isn't...

You clearly don't listen to Banks cause everything you said here was wrong. He hasn't done punchline rap since 2006
