I got hella lucky

I got laid off in December '09 but had a better paying job within a month. Wifey's company was laying people off but she was spared. I was at a company doing a big project for a big bank... it was one of the few that survived

Timing is everything... if I had graduated a few years later I'd have been completely fukked

Gearing up for the next one... wifey and I work in boring but safe fields so hopefully we should be OK. Hoping to load my powder keg to buy some cheap stocks

It didn't. I quit my job in June of 08 and didn't even know we were in a recession. Luckily I found a job the next day. But as soon as I got to the new job, they started letting people go and had a hiring freeze. Luckily they needed my position to be filled.

I gotta prepare for this next one tho :lupe:

Extinct
*sits down in a chair* Here goes:

  • Lost my job as a Ink Technician within 2 months of being hired
  • Tried to seek jobs and ended up being a salesman for like a week (could not take the pressure and expenses)
  • Worked as a landscaper for my wife's dad and the business ended up folding within a few months
  • 3 years of unemployment, depression, suicidal thoughts, and dead end temp jobs (warehouse worker and security guard)
Basically the worst moments of my life :mjcry:

I got a new job and a 20k+ pay increase :francis:
I remember being on some straight :mjpls: vibe back then
We had a company meeting around thanksgiving and we all went around saying what we thankful for
I said some shyt about how we all had jobs and were doing good in that bad climate so we should be thankful
CEO was like :gladbron: and everyone started clapping :dead:

That company was cool but they basically used the recession as an excuse to never give us raises while I was there. I bounced after a couple years when my stock vetted

Didn't notice a difference. I was still broke. A lot of folks were doing way better than me. Was working a job that I used to have nightmares working at when I wasn't there but tried to make the best of it. Also was in school getting my B.S. after I graduated with my associates. So I didn't feel shyt. Was also convincing myself that I was crazy at the time because I didn't want to deal with certain things so I was in and out of mental health centers looking for am excuse go avoid life but my work insurance was wack. I made the best out of my struggle though I bytched about it..

It didn't affect me being a single man, STEM, in California but I learnt a lot from how much it affected those people supporting families around me.
Taught me to always have a side hustle. Savings are cool but side hustles are life savers. I Keep and develop side hustles now even with a regular job.

Got engaged in Dec 08
Got married in Oct 09
Moved to Michigan in July 10, bought a condo got a better paying job.

Only financial down side was commuting from Ann Arbor to downtown Detroit everyday for work. Gas was high as shyt, bought a new car for better gas mileage.

Got thru it unscathed thru dumb luck I guess. IDK

Didn’t effect in terms of the crash

But I did lose my job and lost my so called friends because when I needed a hand they act like I wasn’t there and it was the same fools I used to help out

After 2008 I had no such thing as friends and my parents was the only ones who helped me and really made me realize ITS ONLY U AND HOPEFULLY YOUR PARENTS OR THE PERSON U WITH IN LIFE

Facts. I had 12 “friends” growing up. We used to be Mobb Deep everywhere we went. Now I have 2. My focus has shifted to family over friends as well. I don’t got time to be hanging out with 10+ nikkas anyway.

Edit: I said that backwards earlier smh

I was 19 working a part time job not sure about going to college. Then in a matter of weeks I went from getting 35 hours a week to 8 hours a week :mjcry: My little pockets were hurt. Enrolled in college that summer and left town lol. In hindsight I should went to community college from 18-19 when I was bullshytting working those retail jobs. I would’ve saved time by finishing college on time and money from not paying a 4 yr college for all four years. But I made it :yeshrug:
