I was getting to high school at the time so nothing really happened to me. My dad's company got bought out and his department/team was deemed surplus. We had just bought a house earlier as well. Go from making $300K+ to getting the pink slip. Luckily, he was well networked and got a very good job back in Nigeria and actually did better for himself after moving back.
Idk how bad the next one will be, but this will be my first "adult" recession so I'm just stacking up savings and trimming my expenses as best I can. Once I get to my savings goal then it's really about getting my side hustles going.

Eventually heard about a program at the unemployment office where my state gave $5000 in grants to those who needed to change industries. Just had to go through some BS "career readiness" seminars. :bpthink:

I got out of graduate school and it took me a two years to find a job in my field. I made ends meet working retail.

I wasnāt touched by it at all. Was 18 and my dad was employed with the state and my mom was employed with the city and worked for the retarded Jewish kids

Got laid off for the first time, wife (girl at the time) was pregnant and had to bring home the bacon for about a year. I still had a part time radio gig but that was only 3 days a week. I played Xbox and worked out during the day until she came home. FYI its nothing a pregnant black woman hates more then coming home and seeing a happy carefree black man with his feet up.
