I was raised Christian, but now that I’m older, I’m just more spiritually agnostic in believing in God but not subscribing into any religion. The Bible teaches a lot of good things, but Islam and Buddhism also teach good things that you can’t disqualify.

I agree with Ghandi when he said I like your Christ but I don’t like your Christians. I used to be one of those super religious Christian dudes but the more I knew about black history the more I was put off religion as a whole (still believe in Jesus’ principles).

It’s funny though, even during my ultra religious days I was against the whole depiction of Jesus being white. How can a man in the Middle East be white when the bible said he blended in with everyone and didn’t stand out for the first 30 years of his life . Plus God being white made even less sense since the very bible said we are all made in his image.

It helped that I grew up in a proud black household that never saw whites as superior. The fact that Jesus and God are depicted as white is the number one form of white supremacy programming. If God is white & Jesus is white and you see them as your saviour then consciously or subconsciously you’ll start to see being black as being inferior.

Anyway to each his own, I’m not one to judge anyone’s religious beliefs, I just hate how traditional African religions are painted as evil or backwards by the western media.

And no - im not an atheist at all. I fully believe and talk to God/The Creator/higher power daily, just make my own rules of life with him, and do my best to be a kind person to everyone.

I don’t subscribe to any man-delivered religions or messages.

But how does everyone (my family, your family, etc) just gloss over the only reason we as Black folks follow the Christian religion is due to being beaten into it through Slavery and Colonialism. (Talking about the majority of us Americans, Caribbeans, Africans, not any ancient Ethiopians or whatnot with their own form of Christianity)

Even if we ignore the slavery/colonization thing, i still get the same responses when i remind them of the vile people within the catholic church who cherry picked what went into their holy book and how it was taught several centuries before they arrived on Africa.

Now i raise this point because the cop-out i always hear from black people about why we stick to christianity is that, "it doesnt matter how we got it, but it brings us closer to God". This cop-out is half-azzed at best. When you look at the history of how the bible and its doctrine have been chopped and remixed ; i doubt any black person is praying to the entity/deity of original christianity. Just some caricature of it.
