Most things I read. As I understand it, west Africans (which we in the Americas descend from) were not practicing Christianity prior to European arrival. Not speaking on the horner africans across the continent.

I don’t know nothing about that, but if they was smart, they followed whatever religion their family followed.
There is no one religion, no one correct spiritual system.
It’s all a system for community building, maintaining cultural heritage, passing on information, and personal development.
You pick an avatar to pattern your life after (Heru, Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, whatever), learn some parables to help you out of life’s jams and that provide a shared history for the community, and love your people.

West Africans which made up the majority of slaves during the Trans Atlantic slave trade would have been Muslims or practicing their own local religions. Black Americans being Christians is 100000% a byproduct of slavery

you basically captured everything I was trying to say in the OP.
I fully believe (and talk daily) in God, just not in a Christian manner, highly in part due to understanding our history.
i dont care what anyone practices, but i want our people to understand why we are here today, not just “well my granny did it”. No, dive into your history my brothers.
i think alot of people refuse to look at history critically or want to cover their ears and eyes because reality is too bitter sometimes.

We Israelites, but cacs brainwashed us into thinking we are the heathens in the Bible. Then on top of that they forced you to celebrate their American days of observance, and we no longer celebrate the holidays we were commanded to in bible.
