I agree with the OP. That shyt makes no sense to me. A lot of people are broke because they don't have their priorities in order.

For example, I was at work today talking to my boy...

My boy: I'm going to spend 20k on my wedding

VA: :childplease:

VA: Me and my girl aren't going to have a wedding we are just going to do the Justice of peace.

My boy: :childplease:

20mins later...

My boy: These student loans are kicking my ass, I'm going to be in debt forever

VA: :childplease:

His priorities are clearly fukked up.

Personally, I could pay $20k for my wedding in cash. And other than a mortgage, I have no debt.. But I see no point in it. I'd rather keep that money invested.. So it can work for me and grow. A big wedding won't do shyt for me in the future.

People's perception of what they can "afford" is truly fukked up.

Long as people are getting by without have to resort to that treachery, I can't judge or won't judge. Some people can't get by as easily as others. All that matters is that they do.

I agree with this partially, but I think that you, the OP and others simply aren't empathetic not understanding on how plainer people/families are in debt. Their overhead/cost of living exceeds their monthly income

Debt... wasting money on bullshyt/poor money management... life emergencies... low-wage jobs... These are just a few common and easily explained scenarios to answer OP's question.

well i lost everything before. and i had a savings that carried us for about a year before the bottom completely fell out. so it's VERY important to save a lil change here and there if possible. always think about the "what ifs". cause life does happen and it doesn't care if you have the money or not. better to have it when you need it than to need it and not have it. i have been on both sides of the coin. having lots of money and wondering why more people aren't doing as well to looking at people doing normal stuff like buying a basket of groceries and WISHING that i could do that :sadbron:. i'm back on my shyt now, but i'm saving more than ever and i take NOTHING for granted. it's all about what you want. do you want to stunt or do you want security (for the people with actual means to save). the people that make low wages....:to:....gotta just make due until you can get a better gig. not really much you can do if you make under $12/hr.

i'm surprised that money management is not taught in junior high and high school. it's a real problem and it doesn't seem like anyone is in a rush to fix it. if that's the case, we will always be slaves to credit mismanagement....:wow:

At my HS we had a class called Life Management Skills where you learned how to budget, do taxes, etc. My class was the last one to get it before the funding got cut. Not saying I didn't stumble (summer '07 :wow:) when I was young but I was aware of the traps.

I feel OP, but an understand how you get disconnected the more you start to make more. Sometimes I think about the GROWN people who were working with me in fast food when I was a young kid.

Honestly, I'm a skeptic.

Banks only got yo money insured if you have over 50 grand in there. Something along those lines.

Y'all tryna lose $49,999 to these mobsters huh :mjpls:

When did I say people should do anything??? What is wrong about making sound financial decisions like making a budget for yourself, so that you see exactly where & what your money is going to. I make sure I write down what I spend daily & at the end of the week make the necessary adjustments for the next week & rest of the month. Don't act like people don't spend money or trivial bullshyt & then are complaining that they're broke until next paycheck. I've personally see a few friends do this. That's not being on a high horse, it's called being an adult & making mature moves.
You still haven't explained how someone can live and save on 7.25. You brang that shyt equation into the mix, stand by it. Stop running from what you said.

Because it's a very simplistic view.
