My pops made a similar argument the other day and I got so frustrated I wanted to hang up the phone. He unequivocally believes it's a cultural problem. I said pretty much the same as you...that it's a matter of proximity and race is incidental. But he's of the mind black folk "can't afford to not be aware". I mean yea the thought is nice, but that's generally not how people operate. I don't know why we'd carry on any differently. You subject anyone to those conditions and this is the result.
