Testimony and alter call and PRAISE BREAK are definitely the biggest culprits of adding 30 minutes, but...who's gonna cut that short? People getting saved but you gotta go watch the Bears vs Packers?no testimony session.

Na listen as a young boy I was an usher on the door handing out flyers. I just always wondered how they get out earlier? It's just very ritualistic and planned out especially Catholic church. Hyms are the same songs for sometimes centuries old, kneel at the same time, say the same things together, etc. the organization isn't planning, it's ritual.
Black (baptist, AME, etc) church's were built on the ritual being the get together itself, and the time for that is less important than the emotion/feeling/worship around it. I damn near missed a Superbowl once because of the opening of a new church sanctuary and service. But, I stream the same church to this day and I tune in at exactly 8am PST because regardless of everything else, pastor starts the sermon then (ministry of music honestly does little for me).
But, not saying it's right, fair, or modern, but in black churches, it's a testament to your faith:
You got something BETTER to do than worship![]()

Because it's not an improv show.
Or the consecutive worship, prayer and deliverance sessions mid sermon.it means they speak the word. Ain't no "y'all ain't hear me." "Let me say it again for the nikkas and the biitches in the baccl, ha" "I got time today..." they just say what they got to say. If it missed themark, oh well see you next week
there was an old "Mother" of the church that was at my Grandmas church. Every week that lady would tell a 20-30 minute random story. like her car doors were frozen and she said "jesus" and the doors would unlock. And then just all the other random stories the congregation.Testimony and alter call and PRAISE BREAK are definitely the biggest culprits of adding 30 minutes, but...who's gonna cut that short? It's not unspoken. It's scheduled. They have structured rituals and a program that lasts that long.Na I got what he was saying and I know it’s about the fellowship. I’m just wondering is it an unspoken rule in white churches. Cause they got bells nationwide. Is it something unspoken.
