I couldn't wait to move out of my mama's house. I had to move to Vegas to officially move out because I found a job that paid enough. At this time I was 23. It wasn't that my mama treated me like a child or anything. She just liked drama and hasn't grown mentally. Love her and will respect her but could never live under her roof again. This was my only option.

I'm gonna be 27 this year and I'm still technically in my Mom's house but I got a whole floor to myself. I got a room, bathroom and kitchen so I have privacy and comfort.
Can say this is very true. Even the whole "can't bring a female home" narrative isn't true when you can get a hook up like this, your guest can go an entire day without even seeing your parents.

I lived with my mom up until I was 28 when I moved out for good. I first moved out at 20 and had my own place. Worked different jobs until I went into the Marines. After I got out I moved back in again while I went to school. I worked a job full time and went to school full time. Always paid bills. If you're going to school and helping out with bills I don't see it as a big deal until you get to your mid 20s.

Hey what are some good tips for working full time and going to school full time? I worked full time last semester and it was exhausting, but I want to do it again when I transfer to University from my CC. Did working full time affect your grades?

your father just sounds like a fakkit with insecurity issues. I dont know why black families seem to be so ardently opposed to this, especially when most black families have so little wealth to begin with.

stay and stack, then buy something.

Additionally, I have seen some black parents go out of their way to harm their childs growth. This is especially true when the parent does not have much to their name they go out of their way to mess with their kids. I have a good friend who's father would purposely take her late to her job interviews so that she could not get a job. Some black parents are honestly fukked up in the head.

That's true, I'm just saying this standard idea of booting your kids out the house at 18 on some sink or swim shyt should be saved for special circumstances where people just can't get along or like you said no real support system. But in the future, if we talking about economics and building, family is where it should start. My uncle was already doing well enough, he had a different upbringing from my moms and his brothers and sisters even though they grew up in the same house (different fathers). But that cushion, without the shame and the petty bullshyt that people get into from time to time allowed him a solid foundation. Ain't shyt cool about flailing about out there in the world struggling if it's not absolutely necessary.

Yeah kicking your kids out at 18 is not the way to go. A lot of black people have no idea of what it means to keep wealth within the family.

living with your mom is so much different than living with your dad or dad + mom

Wish mine were still married :mjcry:

He'd bother her, not me

I honestly think that it depends on the type of parents that you have....
thing is usually a dad has the alpha male mentality and when you hit your 20s you start to get the same and having 2 alpha males in the house is tough

You don't think it's the same with a mother in the house? I've seen cases where mothers can be extremely controlling, questioning everything, if they can't physically challenge the child they throw stuff or verbally berate them, and etc. From my personal experience it really just depends on the parent.
