How do you handle racial profiling in clothing stores?

Lol. Went to Bloomingdale’s with the wife. I came in workout clothes etc.. wife dips with the kids, so I go to check out the cologne. White lady comes over assuming I can’t afford anything and takes me to the generic section. I ask her about other scents and thinking I can’t afford anything she directs me to this other sales rep. With the other rep, I end up buying some Bond and Le Labo... wife came back as I was purchasing and that white sales lady swarmed her so fast spraying scents all the expensive scents trying to catch a sale of us.... I just told her, “we good”, thanked the other dude and left.

I turn and ask them plainly and with a blank face " are you following me because I am Black and you think I am going to steal?" Then I just stare them as we both stand in silence.....they feel the distance and are very uncomfortable.

Then the denials and plea coppin starts. Then I say " since you desired to be helpful and perform your duty to service my needs would you please hold these, could you get a ladder to get that one all the way on the top shelf.

Then after speaking to them as if they are peons, I inform them that I have no intention if buying anything and it is because of their profiling. Then I leave .

I have had it happen a few times and I just leave. I used to work retail so I know what the signs are, like employees pretending to put stuff away where you are...I usually move to another part of the store and if they (or another employee) follow, then I know what's up.

There's no reason to patronize a store that stereotypes you or assumes you aren't worthy of shopping there. The worst thing you can do is be aware of it and still give them your money to "prove your worthiness."

abercrombie and Fitch does that bullshyt.

You have to confront people who do that and kindly ask them to stop. If they don't, you make it clear that there will be a problem if they continue. Simply walking out is letting them win, imo.

I don't shop or go in high end stores, the highest end store I ever been in is Macy's.

Last time I got followed in a store it was dollar general of all places
