I feel somewhat bad for him, but Colin is a better option for the 49ers and gives them a better chance to be great. Alex will get a chance somewhere next year, so then he can try to prove Harbaugh and the masses wrong.

I can't imagine he'll be that happy about winning a ring that he doesn't contribute to (in the playoffs) when he considers himself the starter.

Not a bad ceiling to basement for Alex's future career prospects.
IIRC, Trent Green got another starting job in Kansas City and led them to the playoffs to be merked by whoever they faced first. Then he went to Miami and got retired due to concussions. Banks didn't get another shot.... Bledsoe went to Dallas and ended up giving way to Drew Henson (?).

It wouldn't change a thing. We played Green Bay earlier in the year. The defense played lights out and we still only won the game by a single possession.
In this game... defense gave up a little more... they were good, not great but we won the game going away because the offense was much more explosive.
Everyone should realize now that the Niners have a higher ceiling with Kaepernick than smith. The only thing that concerns me is his youth. Smith is a game manager.
But that would be the only highlight he can take away from it.
