The talented tenth ideology failed just like pan africanism did

Shyt looks good in books and sounds good in speeches but when the rubber meets the road the results speak for themselves. Self interest is inevitable

What you say has some truth, I would just add these ideologies could seem more practical and realistic when we faced violent racism and Jim Crow at home and global White imperialism abroad.

Under those conditions, when it was clear do or die for Black folks, self interest and group uplift were closely aligned as a matter of survival.

It still is do or die but not crude and in your face aggression until recently so "getting mine" and the possibility of integration for the top realigned their incentives. Same for the political "independence" of Africa and the Caribbean.

Same thing happened to Jews in Europe after the anti Semitic codes were repealed in the 19th century. They didn't get collectively on code again until Hitler showed up and barring such a catastrophe, I agree the Talented Tenth and Pan African ideals are probably not going to get much mileage.
