Anytime you want to compare GOATS in sports across different eras, it is absolutely and positively subjective
I agree with that to a degree and while that may be true, Hill wasn't on his way to being a top-10 player of all time. We're not talking a Jordan v Kareem who's better comparison here, which would be what I classify as being subjective due to all the era, position, competition accomplishments caveats that come with it.

There isn't a logical or reasonable argument for Hill to be potentially mentioned alongside those players, therefore subjectivity doesn't apply here.

if hes talking just pure skills at his best disregarding actual events then it is subjective so ill grant him that (pun).
That doesn't really make sense though. Since being a top-10 player of all time is far more than just displaying skills at one particular point, and expecting the follow-through to be on an even keel.
but like i said above, if we're going that route..and not taking into account reasonable trajectory for the teams he was on and what may have been with the magic (i think a flop but its not worth talking about really in this convo)..then id still say there is no way he is top ten and id name a handful of guys id simply prefer to have on my team in a blank canvas scenario
Yeah exactly, even if he had everything go his way, he ain't sniffin the top 10. Hill was that dude, but he wasn't that dude.

what i was trying to decipher from what he was saying was that in a scenario where you have nba players in whatever phase of their careers that they were at their peak in a gym for a game or as a GM for a season then he'd have a top 10, top 15... top 20..whatever..skill-set/performance. in any event, there is no chance there arent 15-20 players id definitively take over grant hill..and in this hypothetical, that opens it up to even more players who just purely had great skill-sets but barely accomplished anything.

in that case, it is somewhat subjective because itd essentially be like scouting HS or college prospects and drafting them

Exactly. He played 7 years. The real question is how good could that tandem of T-Mac and Hill have been had Hill stayed healthy. Orlando would have ran the east.

Finals every year from 00-04

5 straight finals losses to the tandem of the spurs and lakers

I know right? If he was healthy with T Mac, Orlando could have been special.....

Hill's game was extremely malleable for lack of a better word....... He was able to come back at 35 and still give you 13 pts 5 boards and maybe 5 assists coupled with really good Defense
his basketball IQ was off the charts. it was actually really enjoyable to watch him as an older player on the suns.. dude was always in the right spot for key rebounds, guarded the other team's best player.. he was even still throwing crazy passes like he was at duke.. he threw an out of bounds to j rich that he dunked at the buzzer .

I remember Grant would always bust Pippen's ass as a Bulls stan in the 90s

i don't remember grant sticking it to the bulls as much as penny used to

i also think people are forgetting how popular this dude was.

he lead all all-star voters as a rookie, beating a young shaq

He lead all voters again even after MJ had returned and was winning titles again

led the league in triple doubles a few times.. moreso than what russ is doing this year.

dude had people rocking filas.

i think he lead detroit in every category except blocks one year

edit: it appears to be the 96-97 season. he let the pistons in points, rebounds, steals, and assists. he was second in blocks (although by a wide margin).
