I need to make a basic thread about internet security because some of the shyt y'all are posting in this thread is very dangerous and I can tell some of you are clueless about how vulnerabilities work.

You don't need to be "doing stupid shyt" on the internet to have your machine compromised, all you have to do is be on the internet.

I do alot of paid virus removals... No matter how savvy you are, you are still bound to come across an infection whether its a hidden script on a webpage (never fullscreen your internet browser), a flash or java exploit, bad download, malicious ad, etc.

You can go the tinfoil hat route of using Tails on a USB with Tor.

Or you could use Firefox with noscript.

But you should always have a virus scanning tool and a malware scanning tool (both are different) malwarebytes is a good choice and there are also some even better free programs, of course im on mobile right now so once i get home i will post a list of some of the stuff i use

I could but I don't really want to :manny:

Just understand you there's more than just viruses out there. I could post a picture in this thread that when the image loads in your browser it gives me full remote access to your computer.

And if you had no antivirus you'd never know.

To everyone saying you don't need anti-virus, thank you for your ignorance on computer security. You're the reason I'm gainfully employed :blessed:

:mjlol: @ don't be an idiot on the internet and you won't catch a virus. That's hillarious
It's the truth

but there are a lot of idiots out here so...:manny:

What do you know about application vulnerability? Because I'm getting the impression you're not very knowledgeable on the subject :patrice:
I know Adblock stops ads from even loading and NoScript stops every javascript from loading unless you tell it to do so and that I've been good with this combo for several years on the handful of sites I frequent

But please, enlighten me :whiteparadise:

The fact you believe the only exploits are script based is why I believe you don't know anything about application vulnerability. Have you opened a PDF file? A spread sheet? An MP3? A picture? You ever been to a site that uses flash or java?

All of those things (and a whole lot more) can have malicious code that would give someone admin access to your computer. Remote code execution and privilege escalation is a real thing and with publically availbale toolkits like metasploit it's not that dificult to install a keylogger on you machine, especially when you don't have antivirus
