Have you opened a PDF file? A spread sheet? An MP3? A picture?
Not unless I know exactly what it is and where it's coming from. That's where the common sense kicks in. Lot of people just throw caution to the wind and open any old thing, and that's one way you can get caught up regardless of your set up.

You ever been to a site that uses flash or java?

Plenty of times...and like I said before, NoScript isn't letting them run unless I tell it to. You're familiar with the add-on, correct? Very little is whitelisted off top and it's up to you to determine what is necessary to enable for a website to be functional and leave the unnecessary parts alone.

Breh, I know you got the certs and all that there and know more about the technical aspect about this than I do, but I've been malware and virus free for over 7 years. There were times I ran programs like Malwarebytes just for the hell of it and found absolutely nothing. Some of us out here know what we're doing breh :manny:

I could but I don't really want to :manny:

Just understand you there's more than just viruses out there. I could post a picture in this thread that when the image loads in your browser it gives me full remote access to your computer.

And if you had no antivirus you'd never know.
There's been a few times I click on a thread and my antivirus alert goes off. A few times it was in the sneaker thread, couple times it's been in the locker room

Ah the good ol W32/Perrun, its not really wild as making that kind of virus, would require a image hosting website...which of course wouldn't even allow you to mod that JPEG. Ultimately though it would have to be an .exe file so as long as you're not frequenting cheaply guarded image hosting sites, you're fine.

So basically, the file has to be run first for anything to actually do damage. And even then - Force shutdown - Safe Mode - Delete file. Also keep in mind that Perruns have been around for decades now. As for remote access trojans (RATs) - Unlplug Ethernet -Force Shutdown - Safe Mode -System Restore.

I do alot of paid virus removals... No matter how savvy you are, you are still bound to come across an infection whether its a hidden script on a webpage (never fullscreen your internet browser), a flash or java exploit, bad download, malicious ad, etc.

You can go the tinfoil hat route of using Tails on a USB with Tor.

Or you could use Firefox with noscript.

But you should always have a virus scanning tool and a malware scanning tool (both are different) malwarebytes is a good choice and there are also some even better free programs, of course im on mobile right now so once i get home i will post a list of some of the stuff i use

Plenty of browsers already take care of that. Gone are the days of simple Internet Explorer and Netscape. These days you can run Opera, and be good. Firefox with noscript and Adblocker is overkill. I would agree, get a AV program regardless, but as long as you're not diving deep into unfamiliar territories online, you should be fine.

Basically...

Firefox + Noscript + adblock = you good for BROWSING the internet

Nothing is getting through that line of defense unless you explicitly allow it...

That won't prevent you from downloading pdf files, mp3s and exes with malicious code though...If you're the type that downloads random shyt off the Internet nothing can save your ass...These free resource hog AV scanners don't even detect most of that shyt...

I highly recommend a firewall (I use Comodo) and becoming familiar with the processes running on you PC...

It wouldn't require an image hosting site, I could easily host the files off my computer. shyt I could probably host it off my phone if I rooted it. And no the file wouldn't be an exe, it would be a pdf/mp3/png/jpg/mkv/etc.

Like I said, a lot of you guys know just enough to be dangerous with the information you're giving out. There's a reason why every single security standard on the planet either strongly recommends or straight up require that an antivirus be installed on all machines.
