does that make him a better artist than rappers who aernt as lyrical as him

:usure:

This is a great point. OP needs to clarify exactly what he means.

Canibus was such a waste of potential.

Since when do records sales determine who's the better rapper?

If that's the case fifty, dmx, wayne,em and mc hammer are top 10.Pac sold like 64-67 million records after he died.Death benefitted his sales more than anything

Pacs music ain't timeless either a few songs are the bulk of it isn't cuz 2pacalypse now, strictly 4 my nikkaz, all eyez on me sound dated as fukk.Who gets more spins and sold more is irrelevant nas bodies tupac is any category of rap.Nas blazed every feature he was ever on and got classic verses can't say the same about tupac

You said Pac was overrated because of his death, when he was a bigger star when he was alive than Nas ever was. That was my point about his sales while he was still alive.

I still play Me Against the World & Makaveli on the regular. R U Still Down & All Eyes On Me still get mad spins also. That's timeless music. With Nas his records only got spins during the time of their release for the most part. Not saying his discog is wack because it's not, it just aint all that timeless.

Seems like you putting your personal opinion over the general consensus, you mad the majority don't see it your way?

With Nas and Pac, I consider them both about even lyrically. Nas is more complex technically, where Pac is more straight forward. Both of them are more poetic with their approach to lyrics. Pac trumps Nas with the delivery though. Pac was also slightly more versatile in that he could successfully pull off songs like "California Love" and "How Do You Want It" and still hit you with social commentary in songs like "Brenda's Got A Baby" and "Keep Ya Head Up".

Great post. Very objective take.

I think Nas has an ill delivery. I agree with you that Pac is more passionate. If that's what you meant.

I don't know if I agree with you about versatility. Pac made club bangers - but not in an era where you had to make "dumb" club bangers. Nas obviously can't do that to save his life. It would have been interesting to see Pac trying to make dumb club records in 99 though.

who makes better music :youngsabo:

see why this nas is morr lyrical shyt doesnt make him a better artist..

nas stans need to something to validate there dude i understand but its a dumb argument.. nas will never get the love/respect that pac has

2pac-o.gif

Lyricism is important in hip hop. At least to the core audience. I could turn the coin on you and say Pac will never be viewed as a rappers rapper like Nas, G Rap or Rakim.

I agree, theyre more even than anything... but how is naS more complex technically? Can you show this with an actual song, with the lyrics?

Posting lyrics isn't the best way to demonstrate that. If you've heard five songs from the Illmatic/IWW era and compare them to five songs from MATW and on - Nas' shyt sounds more complex/faster. He's getting more accomplished in less time to me.

Not a knock on Pac though...Pac just wasn't that blackout, lyrical miracle type of rapper.

Hip hop is music you listen to and feel - not music you write down and analyze.

Not at all.Pac was a bigger star cuz:

A. He was way more controversial always gettin arrested, always talking, always in court, always in something
B. He was in movies

Nas has always been the more talented mc.Nas was known in hip hop years before his debut album was released

I witnessed pacs whole career he didn't blow until he started acting a fool.Nas didn't have to do that he built his resume off being a dope mc.Pac is a martyr.Nas is a living legend at age 39 going on 40 and pac is a revered memory for revisionists for the last 17 years.

It's laughable that people are trying to make a case for pac and nas being close as lyricists.Just shows how overrated pac is

Song writing is probably the most important part of lyricism in rap "music".

There are tons of wack rap artists that have sick rhyme schemes & multi's and all that. Don't make them better rappers. At the end of the day the music speaks for itself. Eminem is horrid to me because he's made nothing but wack music after the MMLP. He got Jay on Renegades, but I would never say he's a better rapper or lyricist than Jay. Connecting with the listener is far more important than lyrical gymnastics.

Saying Nas is a more skillful spitter is means whatever to me. Skillful spitters come a dime a dozen.

This is just as impressive if not more than anything Nas showed on Illmatic:blessed:.....its a lotta nikkas from a "technical" standpoint that can match what Nas does....end of the day it comes back to classic songs,albums......that's what puts Nas ahead of other lyricist nobody gives a shyt about, including Nas stans......u don't just love every lyricist.....Nas has nice concepts and can actually make good songs when he want to.....when he's not making good songs he's right there in the category with other lyricist I don't really care about....end of the day it comes back to this song shyt, and nas ain't fukin wit pac

@JustCKing

exactly, youre saying what I'm sayin... kind of, you said naS was more complex, but then posted Pac verses that refute it... and thats what I am saying. No matter what cats post from naS, I can refute it with a Pac verse.

"Heavy In the Game"

Now how can I explain how this game laced me, plus with this fame
I got enemies do anything to break me, my attitude changed
Got to the point where I was driven, twenty-four/seven
Money's my mission, just a nikka trying to make a living
These busta tricks don't want no mail
They spending they riches on scandelous bytches
and stay petrified in jail
It's hell, plus all the dealers want a meal ticket
Jealous-ass bytches, player-hating but we still kick it
Always keep my eyes on the prize, watch the police
Seen so much murder, neighborhoods getting no sleep
But still, I get my money on major, continuously
Communicating through my pager, nikkaz know me
Don't have no homies cause they jealous, I hustle solo
Cause when I'm broke I got no time for the fellas, listen
Ain't nothing poppin 'bout no broke nikka, ain't no joke
fukk what they say and get your dough nikka
Heavy in the game

I wake up early in the mornin, mindstate so military
Suckers fantasizin pictures of a young brother buried
Was it me, the weed, or this life I lead
If daytime is for suckers then tonight we bleed
Out for all that, knowin that this world bring drawbacks
Look how this shyt bump once I deliver these raw raps
Meet me at the cemetery dressed in black
Tonight we, honor the dead, those who won't be back
So if I die, do the same for me, shed no tears
Why worry, hope to God, get me high when I'm buried
Knowin deep inside only a few love me

pac was just iller then nas lyrically.

Nas is the greatest living no doubt about that......... Pac is the greatest that ever did it no doubt about that.......its like Pac is Jordan and Nas is Kobe..........

"this lil nugget, Nas think he live like me, talkin bout he took 5, left hospital and survive like me"...........ETHER before ETHER was ETHER.........

No doubt Pac would rap circles around Nas.........ima huge Nas fan......and i go to war for God Son at any time.......but the Original Black Jesus is Pac.......... if u grew up on Pac then u know its no question if whether Nas is better......simple and plain NOOOOOOOOOO......

Pac had better songs, better flow, better charisma, more passion, better delivery, better production, his tenacity on the mic was unmatched.....dude was like a Mike Tyson on the mic........and no opponents really wanted it with Pac.......then the quotables....... i mean come on people........ Nas does deserve to be in the sentence with Pac......but its no comparision at all in terms of who is better........its Pac downs all day......:pachaha:

I seen some state the fact about lyricism......when people say Pac wasnt lyrical or didnt display lyrical perfection.......u have to just turn around and say no more.......Pac not being lyrical is like saying Jay-Z admitted he never lost 92 bricks and got it all back......

I had to throw a shot at the camel, cuz my dog Pac is died.......... he told me to tell the camel that he said "i smoke daily".......lol.........

A writer of song lyrics.

That is the definition of being a lyricist, and pac was a far better song writer than nas.

2Pac - Holler If Ya Hear Me - YouTube

i killed like 3 or 4 nikkas after hearing this song, first time i heard the world is yours i took a nap (literally)

That's not how the word is used in hip-hop. According to that definition, every rapper is a lyricist.

No shyt Sherlock.

If you a rapping/writing songs you're a lyricist. Doesn't mean you are good, or rank as an elite in the craft.

Pac is one of the most prolific song writers of any genre, let alone hip hop, by definition. When comparing two of hip hops elite you really gotta start with the basis of lyricism, which is song writing. He's easily a better song writer than nas, no matter how much more complex it may sound to whoever.

TS is always a little bit irrational with the nauze hate but a lot of his argument is grounded in reality, it's nikkas that would beast on nas from a technical standpoint but they can't write songs as well.

Lupe is a good example of this, and i'm a HUGE fan of his, he's not a bad song writer IMO, but his complexity over nas (over many emcees actually) doesn't do much for him in the way of delivering his messages in a concise/powerful manner.
