If you disapprove of China's handling of this crisis (which you should, suppressing science is most definitely not the wave) but somehow approve of Trump's handling, that's just some dog-whistle Sinophobia shyt working on you. The fact is, at this rate, we can probably see America is going to get hit (officially) harder than China - this is the richest country in the world, a democracy with the most advanced healthcare infrastructure (for the haves) and the best scientists on the planet. And yet, they've managed a response arguably worse than China - *big Soulja voice* CHINA?!?!! Anti-intellectualism is killing America.

Nah it's not entirely his fault, I feel you - but as head of state, he's accountable for all federal responses.

And your point about immunity is a good one - American exceptionalism means most people aren't gonna act unless they see a direct threat ie their friends, family catching the bug and getting seriously ill. Collectivist societies like China, Korea, Taiwan, etc. are better for outbreak management because there's more of a feeling of obeying measures for a greater good.

What should China have done differently? I'm curious.

They shouldn't have tried to contain the virus without notifying international bodies of human to human transmission. As the "host" country of the virus, it's their responsibility to take the outbreak seriously and share their science with the rest of the world. They failed at that, miserably - and should be held to account for that (they won't).

With that said though, I think anti-Chinese sentiment would have been widespread even if the CCP did a picture-perfect job of containment, communication, etc. Trump just needs that invader rhetoric to rally the base, his entire philosophy is a false us vs them dichotomy, and if he is unable to blame one definitive group for events (Mexicans, Democrats, Muslims) he really doesn't have anything. The whole strategy is to classify the virus as a foreign invasion and blame an entire country implicitly or explicitly for it instead of taking responsibility for what he can control and taking care of the blame game later. Ironically, this is the exact type of strategy that flies with the regimes in Iran and China. I never thought we'd see this from the United States in my lifetime.

exactly. so you cant really knock chinas cleanup of their own fukkup. people here werent really treating it seriously because they think they immune to any threat. they also dont take any government warnings too serious. they dont understand threats until they hit them in the face.

trumps response was awful and deplorable. however, if he were to give orders to stay home 24/7 and institute severe punishment at the outset of the virus, lives would be saved, yet peoples response would be far worse, they would yell shyt about hitler and police state.

For all you know you could be "healthy" and have an undiagnosed condition you've never been forced to confront and you're perfectly functional but at a disadvantage. That’s exactly my point. In that case the world should be paranoid of getting sick 24/7 even before corona (and I know some people who are)

You decide to think any virus you get can trigger some underlying causes (just like the teenage girl who died from just 1 cough) I chose to think rationally

Just cause it happened to that young girl ( as unfortunate as it may be) it most won’t happen to you. Maybe it was just her time to go.

These are unexplainable extreme one off examples you’re giving to justify your own fears
