How is Drop a Gem not the G.O.A.T. diss track?

I hear you breh, thats a really good point that Canibus never mentioned LL's name, but Canibus went for LL's neck viciously and it was BLATANTLY about LL.
Anyone from that time would tell you that easily because of the drama around "4,3,2,1".

Doesn't take away from "Drop A Gem..." not being the G.O.A.T. "Hit 'Em Up" takes that title for the viciousness and ruthless directness of using the SAME sample as an enemy and SAYING names. Wasn't a bad stand alone song too :ehh:

But breh, you are right about "2nd Round Knockout".
What other KNOWN diss songs don't mention names though?

I'm from the school of "Dollaz & Sense", "What Would U Do?", etc where you gun for people by mentioning they're names and I promise, 20 years later people still sing along to the MC Eiht and BG Knocc Out disses.
I hear ya.
Biggie and Mobb both did a lot of dissing without saying names. Biggie had Long Kiss Goodnight, and Kick in the Door.
Mobb had an ton of Jay Z disses and didn't say his name.
People already mentioned some of LL disses

Sometimes subliminal dissing can be hot. But to compare records like "Drop A Gem On Em" to "Ether" is absurd.

They're cool little footnotes on tracks if you're really interested in that particular Artists/Group if you're doing some digging. but to put Subliminal Records that are hardly noticeable up there in the discussion of Classic Hip Hop Battle Records isn't where it's at

I'll give Biggie "Long Kiss Goodnight" as a known diss song as it was kind of understandable that it was about 'Pac.
But with "Kick In The Door", I didn't know it was about Nas until years later, I always thought it was about 'Pac.

See, thats the problem; it leaves it up to the person's interpretation, its too ambiguous.

No one can confuse Kurupt dissing DMX, Nas, etc on "Calling Out Names" (named EXACTLY as a rapper should do if there is beef).

That's a fundamental difference between "Drop A Gem..." and "Hit 'Em Up", "No Vaseline", "Dollaz & Sense", etc; the rapper getting dissed HAS to come back with something just as vicious or they lose.

And 'Pac rode on them HARD and they didn't have the heart to say his name.

I don't know nothing about that dude:yeshrug:

The most ratchet bytch I ever met in my life tried to put me on to him

and I just totally blacked him out after that
He made a diss record about Jeezy, but didn't say his name in the record. You'd agree that's cowardly right?

Mobb Deep talked about fukkin up Pac. Gucci made a video giving out factual AND public details about the situation.

Two different approaches if you wanna be technical or do da Strawman
