How is Drop a Gem not the G.O.A.T. diss track?

Y'all are breezing over the point trying to make this Mobb Deep record bigger & harder than what it really was.

Just call it for what it is. A hardcore rap record. A song about Violence and Bragging about how Tuff they are. No more no less.

"Back To Back" and "Mama Said Knock..." are of the same essence too. "Drop A Gem On Em" ain't no exclusive type of record. It's just another rap record with a subliminal thrown in the mix
First off I never said drop a gem on em was a great diss. I think it's a good diss but not great. Thee point was that a few posters tried to downplay it because that didn't say Pac name, and I just pointed out there are a lot of classic diss tracks that didn't say names. If you don't fukk with drop a gem on em that's on you, but that don't change anything I said.

But our point is that those records you're talking about (including the Mobb record) can't be a CLASSIC if it's on some sucker shyt.

We didn't do it then and we're not going to do it now. The records on the list are Classic, no doubt. But classic DISS records tho, nah, not happenin

@DoobieJRoach let's just cut to the chase breh. You're overcompensating because you didn't understand the record when you heard it. It's not a big deal that you didn't get it at the time (or 98) but i think its really influenced how you perceive the record. I don't think you can be objective about it. On the other hand, with my username and avi, clearly I'm unbiased :pachaha:

But what does that have to do with anything tho? You asked was it a GOAT diss record and it backfired.

I don't need to have no kinda context or to be there in that exact moment in time or none of that. The shyt is either Poppin or it's not. I mean it's a cool lil piece of Album Filler that has a backstory of it being a diss record aimed at 2Pac and that's it.

okay, cool, I get it. But since we're talking about the actual song and not the IDEA behind the song then let's be real. It ain't shyt

So 2nd rd KO is not a classic diss because he didn't say LL name:mjlol:

And let's not pretend that "2nd Round K.O." is "Hit Em Up" or "The Truth" or "No Vaseline" just to make a point about something else entirely different

Not saying it was the GOAT diss track, but 2nd rd KO is considered an classic diss track and he never said LL name. Matter of fact there are a lot of classic diss track that don't say names.

I hear you breh, thats a really good point that Canibus never mentioned LL's name, but Canibus went for LL's neck viciously and it was BLATANTLY about LL.
Anyone from that time would tell you that easily because of the drama around "4,3,2,1".

Doesn't take away from "Drop A Gem..." not being the G.O.A.T. "Hit 'Em Up" takes that title for the viciousness and ruthless directness of using the SAME sample as an enemy and SAYING names. Wasn't a bad stand alone song too :ehh:

But breh, you are right about "2nd Round Knockout".
What other KNOWN diss songs don't mention names though?

I'm from the school of "Dollaz & Sense", "What Would U Do?", etc where you gun for people by mentioning they're names and I promise, 20 years later people still sing along to the MC Eiht and BG Knocc Out disses.

canibus did not have to do that when it was obvious who had beef with and who the record was about it's a mute point.
