I got Jay over biggie cause his body of work is greater. Listening to Jay u listening to a future billionaire telling u how he's doing it, his mentality and how he views situations. Big was an all time great, his two albums are legendary, but Jay was able to grow and mature past 96/97 era.

At some point Biggie’s lack of music can’t be held up against someone who made more music across different eras with so much of every that had happened.

Biggie never got to the new millennium, never saw the towers fall, wasn’t here for Katrina, didn’t do a song with 50, never met Obama, and so much more

But Biggie is the best rapper who isn’t alive but if he was more prolific in life then a lot changes
Big only had a 3 year career very short so to accomplish what he did in them 3 years is great …

I think Biggie is the better artist all things considered. I see posters saying Biggie only has storytelling and his voice over Jay, but there is much more than that that makes Biggie a better artist. What makes Biggie a better storyteller? The images, the emotion, and the detail. He created these characters that became a part of Hip Hop in a sense from Dark Skinned Jermaine to Arizona Ron. He had people really wanting to know which NBA player he robbed and bedded the girlfriend. Ready To Die isn't just some hyperbolic gangsta tales, it's the journey through the mind of someone that has sunken so low in life that they want to end it all and actually embraced going to Hell. Yes, it sounds sick and twisted, but as a listener, even if you shook your head in disgust and disagreement at some of the lyrics and content, it still bumped. Then he came back with a double album that was still dark, but had a bit more polish.

Jay Z is a GOAT, but what he lacks in emotion and detail, he makes up for with wit. Not saying wit isn't powerful tool in his arsenal, Jay, as great as his albums are, never quite brought it all together like Big. Jay Z attempted a double album and even if you feel Life After Death is overrated, it's still better than Blueprint 2. Jay tried his hand at the whole jiggy sound and it yielded more filler than what can be found on either disc of Life After Death. Biggie's lines are still being quoted by other greats and used as hooks to songs.

That said, at this point, it would be crazy to still rank Biggie over Jay. Biggie was elite for 4-5 years. Jay's been elite for longer. We've seen him fall off and come back, fall of and come back time and again. So yeah, Jay ranks above Biggie even though I feel Biggie is more talented.
Super fair and even handed post

Yes but it’s been almost 30 years since he died. With all due respect three years could’ve been a trend or a lucky run at this point Jay-Z gave us lifestyle rap even to this day from bring it on to verses of watching his twins feed from the breast of their mother Beyonce. We got all of Jay’s life to this point similar to Jordan not only was he competing with his group he competed against other groups and eras and some of those people ain’t even alive. No more

In sports there’s this thing about an athlete that they die twice the first death is when they stop and the second after their heart stop. In hip hop nobody has really come back from that first death like when you die you might get a pop (Jada literally rapped about this) after the second and real death the energy this artists so called brought wasn’t really as impactful as they would’ve thought.

Jay has to be the greatest and the best because he wins on every metric or places high enough on them for everyone and the way we feel about ourselves cost Nas that shyt because you could argue we tried to give him that first death fast. Someone like LL Cool J who came before Jay and is around the same age as Jay is beneath him and you could argue LL beat Biggie in on the Flavor in your ear remix.

The way coli nikkas re-write history. Cool story breh, we believe u.

revisionist history would be if i said that reasonable doubt was bigger than those albums.

all i did was state my opinion that reasonable doubt was better. thats not revising anything.

now when people on here actually get to revising stuff, i never see you on the frontlines.

a handful of idiors dapped your post too.:snoop:

This is a real simple equation. And for the record I think Big is the best emcee to pick up a mic.

Jay's best album may not be better than Big's best album. But...Jay has albums that are very close, and Jay's had decades of dope music. So Jay has more dope music overall, and that sounds unfair because it's a tragedy that Big was murdered, but also when it comes to a discography it just is what it is. Jay has more overall quality albums, features, etc.

Even though everything Big did in the few short years he was creating may have been stronger, at a certain point it just doesn't outweigh the consistency that Jay has brought to the table.

And trust me. All the time I wonder what Big could've accomplished as an artist. I don't think he would've fallen off, and I think he would've sounded amazing over music from the crop of 2000's producers that came in, etc. We lost a once in a lifetime talent.

This is one of the craziest takes I've ever seen on here. And I say this as a guy that will argue with anyone that Jay has the best catalogue in hip-hop.

Reasonable Doubt is debatable IMO. If you think RD is better than RTD or LAD, I wouldn't argue. I don't think it's better, but I've probably listened to it more than RTD or LAD, and I might actually enjoy it more.

Black Album, though? I don't think so. And I love it, and I think it's Jay's 3rd best album. The Black Album sounds more dated than Life After Death, and it was released 6-7 years later. Life After Death is a truly timeless album. I listened to it the other week and it sounds like it could've been released last year.
