I agree. from 1996 to 1999 he was a nobody.. 2001 he got Ethered.. 2003 he got with Beyonce.. then he bought 0.1% of the Nets, gentrified Brooklyn, ran Def Jam to the ground, and made a couple 3 to 4 mic albums (Black Album, American Gangster).:yeshrug:

I dont see it.
I would not say he was a nobody from 96 to 99. Rap was very competitive at that time. Tons of groups and rappers putting out great music. Jay was right in the mix. He adapted his style and more than held his own. 2001 he got ethered. . But he also dropped a very good LP. I was a Jay Stan from 96 until 2001. Followed him closely until I switched to Killa and company. He made hits. Pure and simple. Now later on he made shrewd moves and I can not fault him for that. His skills have eroded. . But he is careful not to over saturate himself. He is a smart dude even tho he looks like Joe Camel.

jay is a genius...hes the only rapper that seen the bigger picture...because no way a dude with his style shouldve sold that much and been that mainstream....but he understand the game on all levels....

OP is trash.

Jay is a legend and debatable GOAT. He is still relevant (obviously since you made a post about him outta nowhere, on a Saturday afternoon), and he can still rap levels above current "rappers".

Your rat 50 had GRODY, and then got broke while trying.
-when was his last album ?
-still a undisputed rat
-lost to ross, meek, Irv and Ja 10+ years later
-failed business man, in mostly all aspects (how that boxing Corp going?)
-less influential, and couldn't dress worth shyt
-nobody wants to work with him, and doesn't have any industry pull

You don't have to think Jay is a legend...but he's still higher in the game then Curtis.

Is this thread supposed to be facetious/sarcastic? Even if you don't like him how can you deny he's a legend :heh:

Lol@ Jayz being a nobody in 98 smh. nikka had the biggest record that year and was headlining his own arena tour. How old are yall nikkas?

Yeah, I read that shyt and just shook my head. How could Hov be a nobody in the music industry from 96-99, when during that time he released 4 albums that went Gold, Platinum, 5x Platinum, and 3x Platinum?

too many young dumb asses on here who think they know it all, but don't know shyt.
