Funny thing about this thread is how angry people get over others using the word on the internet; yesterday I was at a gas station and this breh and a Sikh we're calling each other that...ain't no way to police a word like that no more. The cats( :hhh: ) too far out of the bag. Why I think all the discourse on Fat Joe saying it is funny to me, yeah get mad, but who's gonna stop them from saying it when they're own people let it fly?

This.

If you don't want to hear it from others, remove it from yourself.

Nah, it's true. @DEAD7 recently had an experience that cemented that. I wish he had the audio to share. I dunno if Clubhouse is like twitter spaces where you can just post and replay audio, though
Had an experience that cemented what? That it “belongs” to white folk :why:???

not because of how they "choose to speak", that framing obfuscates what's actually happening which is, regardless of intent, the word is both derogatory and dehumanizing. If the only thing that matters is intent, then can you explain why it's a problem when non-Black people use the term?
Like I previously stated, if you pretend to not know the difference, or acknowledge context (historical or otherwise), you’re ignorant. And you are pretending. I refuse to believe you’re that dumb. You know better, as do people who use it and know they shouldn’t.

What’s actually dehumanizing is writing off another black person because they use the word “nikka”, all because you prefer a different colloquialism.

I actually like the thinking and logic behind this. I do find it problematic considering rap’s mass consumption but you’re conflating two separate issues. That has nothing to do with how I speak amongst my own.

I'm not writing off any Black people for using the word, I think it's so engrained in our speech that most of us haven't spent more than 30 seconds to ask ourselves why we use it, we've completely bought into this nebulous idea that it's a term of endearment and that there's a difference in n*gga and n*gger because of the spelling. Even under a light analysis, the internal logic falls completely apart but again, if it's never examined, it doesn't matter how weak the logic is.

I'm not pretending not to know the difference, I'm actually acknowledging the historical context, my very first post covers the fact that the term was assigned to Black people by white people to dehumanize them, that's literally the historical context.

There is no difference, man. It's profane.

Just cause ppl say "That's my bytch" in a nice way, doesn't make "bytch" a nice word.

It's trash and it's dehumanizing.

^^^^^^^Y'all see how the word is always associated with negativity??

It's always "lame ass nikkaz"
"Dumb ass nikkaz"
"Stupid ass nikkaz"
"B1tch ass nikkaz"
"H0e ass nikkaz"
"Puzzy nikkas"

Even the posters that are gonna come in this thread talking bout "n1gga please" are using the word out of anger/disdain

Always something negative and degrading.....never positive.

The first word that we reach for when we get upset with another black person is "n1gga".

The Nword devalues black people.....in the eyes of black people.

But I'm out this thread, all these types of threads do is depress me by showing me how backwards we are.

Good luck OP

Y’all really running behind some fakkits rehashing the same tired ass topic over and over again. Man if all y’all don’t sit y’all goofy asses downs somewhere. Just fukking lame as hell g

I can't tell if people are joking or not when they post/quote the Umar "FOR GOOOOD!!!" shyt but either way, just think about that.... brehs are more inclined to ponder killing Black men to supposedly purge the community, but the notion of purging the N word and it's mentality is a bridge too far.

"I mean, do we really have to cleanse ourselves of this trauma? Can't we just kill off the bad apples and call it a day?"

I’ve never said it’s a term of endearment. It’s just a term. Black have the agency to use it without being judged by others. Once again, we are the only people who are constantly policed. How we dress, talk, walk, and breathe are somehow tied to the treatment and respect we get, which, frankly, is bullshyt.

If we stopped saying “nikka”, it’ll be some army of black people bringing up some other slang we use that they feel should be eliminated. “Well, why do you gotta say ‘ain’t’? Can’t you say ‘isn’t?’ You are stupid and ghetto.”

The entire premise of the thread is insinuating a lack of respect or care for black people who use it. That’s dehumanizing. It’s the same, typical, black high horsing done to demean those deemed as lesser than (hood, “ghetto”, etc.)

If you can’t understand the context of black folks using “nikka” amongst each other, you’re being intentionally obtuse.

This isn't true at all. You just feel that way because you're Black.

Every other group polices those activities as well. I'd say they just do a better job of it.

Again with the obfuscation, it's not "just a term" because not everyone is allowed to use it without being judged by others.

If n*gga is just a term and it also isn't the same thing as the word "n*gger" then why is it that non-Black people aren't allowed to say it?

I am really trying to cut this word out of my vocabulary. Like some people in this thread already said, that's the first word I say when I get pissed off at a dude.
"bytch ass nikka"
"p*ssy ass nikka"
"fukk nikka"
I get tired of saying that word, let alone hearing that word whether I'm around other black people saying it or hearing on a song.
And then another thing, older black people barely say that word and tuck their head in shame when they hear young black people saying that word.
