My bad junior year.

That's still 2 more years than Trae Young. And he still had to change his shot before his final year if he wanted to succeed in the NBA.

I mean it's not even Christmas and y'all already have dismissed this kids career :stopitslime:

Nobody dismissing anything but it’s a bit to early to crown the kid the next curry.. lets see what this kid is made when or if he gets to the tourney

Curry took his crew to the elite 8 twice

Honest question to all the CBB watchers.
What’s the difference between this kid and Malik monk last year?

Malik monk could barely dribble or create for anyone else let alone himself. Most of his shyt came off assists and within the offense trae young pretty much is the offense at OU. nikkas say owe he has the ultimate green light but you gotta have the skill set to get that and you still got come through and make shyt happen. Trae young is way better than monk breh.

People will eventually see the light. Trae Young is the real deal. All the talk about not translating is silly. Smart teams will hop on the bandwagon now. But lets take a step back. Why is Trae Young so dominant in college? The answer is because the ability to shoot the ball well, especially from deep completely handcuffs the defense.

The two plays you see in that youtube video (starting at 5:21), and the two plays you see at 6:18 mark tell you all you need to know. With Steph people get caught up with the crazy 3's. From a defensive coaches standpoint, that is problematic but you'll live with it. The real problem that Steph poses is the pick and roll. And just like Steph, Trae Young is going to be a nightmare to guard on the pick and roll. And we are talking about pick and rolls 30 ft from the hoop, well beyond the three point line. Young has shown time and time again that he has the ability to make that shot consistently. Because he can beat you from that far from the hoop, defenses are forced to adjust. No you can switch the pick and roll, but the problem with that is Young is way too quick and will blow by him (to go a little deeper into this, not only is Trae fast, but because his shooting is so lethal, defenders will be leaning forward anticipating the jumper. This will make driving to the hoop that much easier. Big defenders will have no chance). Or you can trap the ball handler. This is why the Warriors need Draymond. When teams trap Steph he just passes the ball to Draymond. So now you have a 4 on 3 (on a side note. This is why KD going to the Warriors is so problematic. Maybe you have a chance in a 4 on 3 with Harrison Barnes being there, but a 4 on 3 with KD situation with KD is win for the offense.

In basketball, some skills are more important than others. And one of the most important skills a dominant ball handler can have is to be able to make 3's off the dribble from deep range. It absolutely destroys defenses and gives the offense an immediate advantage. Now, if that was the only skill that Trae Young had he wouldn't be that problematic. But when you add in his quickness, his dribbling ability (he did a shamgod in the above video), his already developed floater, and his passing ability you start to see the ingredients for a very dominant offensive player. The best comparison for him is Tony Parker. But even then that is a weak comparison because he is vastly superior to 19 year old Tony, and he has range. The best NBA comp for Trae is a blend between Tony Parker and Steph, with a healthy dash of great passing ability.

The fact that he's only 19 tells you all you need to know. With no glaring offensive weaknesses to fix (ala Ben Simmons), he'll be coming into the NBA and be able to focus on more advance techniques. The dumb team might pass on him because of his lack of wingspan and athleticism, but if he goes to a good coach, the sky is the limit. He has a legit chance to be a top 5 pg EVER. If not higher.

I agree with everything you say and its clear that you know your shyt. People get so caught up in athleticism and wing spans but over look the intangibles of playing basketball. The dude is going to be legit barring injury but top 5 all time pg potential talk is way 2 premature

He has a beautiful game and I think his bball IQ is well ahead of the curve, but I don't see him doing anything on the next level. I was shocked at how much he struggles to finish, and it's only going to get tougher. The athleticism just isn't there for the height. I'd bet on him turning out to be the next Trajan Langdon before I'd see him as the next Steph Curry.

That said, he has a lot of skills that no teenager should ever have, so if anyone can do it he can. But I'm trying to come up with a successful player who was as small as him and played the way he does in recent memory...it would have worked in the 1990s (when Mark Price as a 1st-team All-NBA guard), but I don't see it working right now.

Monk way more athletic but his offense was only 3s and dunks he didnt handle the ball much just received passes and tried to put the ball in the hoop.

Young is a PG with a serious greenlight. There really isnt many similarities between the two

Michael Beasley and Kevin Durant had better freshman seasons.

Now leading the nation in points and assists :wow:
He's 4.4ppg ahead of anyone else :ohlawd:
Regardless of what you think of his pro potential, this is one of the greatest college seasons - let alone freshman seasons - of all time

Trae might be having the greatest freshman year of alltime
