Funny enough I work in a corporate environment and man I break all them rules and I still been there for a while.
I done almost spazzed on a cac at work over some slight news comment and they know(well at least a few) about my blackness. It's a environment where you can pretty much do you as long as you do your work. We used to have a black dude that stayed saying "it's the white mans fault!!" out loud but this is a room that was pretty much just Us(a few blacks and others.) We stayed making this one white boy mad.

You want to infiltrate as best as possible without c00ning or exposing yourself too much.

You want to join committees and you want to go out with them a lot. Get drunk with them but always be on point. Never get too loose and let the guard down. White people are extra - show them 10% they'all show you 15%.

It's fine and good to be cautious. But you need to give them food for thought. You want to create allies as best as possible.

I say it again. Get on the inside. Play the game. But play it safe with your yourself and be on point. Let people feel they can really talk to you and only give them

Big Appreciation for this list. I LEARNED the game when I was in it. DON'T TRUST ANYONE.

Last gig I had was at a small tech company that ended up being bought out by a bigger one.

I STAYED to myself and learned dealing with Asians as well as Cacs and c00nS that people generally will try to clique up. YOU STAY ON YOUR OWN. They may look at you weird but be cool and just seem busy with life. Give basic details. They will try to dig, let them. I brought a picture of myself and my wifey to put on my desk. That told them all they needed to know about me. I like vacations and she's sexy. They see that and get all the understanding they need to know that you ain't a weirdo, just on your own thing. That worked for me.


I let myself get a little comfortable once when everyone was cracking jokes, mainly the Cacs with the Asian dude. Soon as I got in it a little the Asian GOT Upset AT ME and damn near wanted to fight. The Cacs had to diffuse it, but lesson learned, YOU Don't Have the privilege to play around as they see you as beneath them. Even if you're on the same level. The respect is not there. Just keep it work.

And ALWAYS remember - skinfolk ain't always kinfolk. I still have a knife in my back from a black woman who was my mentor. Make damn sure s/he's one of us. II don't care how nice or smart or level-headed s/he is - if you have to ask, s/he ain't one of us.
