After a long weekend of messing around with the Vive, i must admit that VR gaming is most definitely the future. Having full room VR is most definitely a life changing experience. I demoed the unit to my fam and a bunch of friends and they were overwhelmingly positive. But playing awesome VR games like Windlands, Holopoint, The Lab had me imagining how cool it would be like to play a Zelda game in this format. Sword fighitng and shooting arrows at beasts would be a transformative experience in VR. A Mario title would be equally epic as well, but probably better in a third person view like Lucky Tales. Ultimately, Nintendo needs to ensure us that whatever new system they plan on making will be VR enabled. Or at least consider making titles for the HTC Vive. Their future viability as a company will depend on it.

Lastly, everyone needs to cop a VR unit. The Vive will ultimately be the better unit due to the full room VR capability and higher build quality. Im actually intrigued by the potential of the PSVR unit, but i really want to see the games their considering releasing first.

i have a hard time accepting the concept because of physical restraints. once they create some platform you can walk/run/swing on without hurting yourself or others, it'll be the future.

maybe some company will create large warehouse style VR stations, like laser tag sets.

you should check out Vanishing Realms. it has sword fighting and such. one of the coolest things is walking around a dark dungeon with a torch. shyt's kinda short, but I think they're gonna add more to it

but in general a lot of the room scale games make you feel like a badass, because you're actually aiming, dodging, ducking, etc, and not just pushing buttons on a controller

No doubt. I want to try this, but my space isn't big enough. :sadbron:

I have to move my PC into the living room. I'm probably just going to build a cheap VR PC for the living room though.

This VR thing is "cool" but it will never take off because it requires too many peripherals for the "full experience" and that costs a lot of money...

The head gear alone is like what? $700?

Look at 3D televisions...They flopped because consumers were bytching about 3d glasses...For VR you're asking the same consumers to buy headsets, guns, shields, swords, treadmills etc...

The prices will ultimately come down, as all tech generally does. Hell, the OG NES debuted at around $700. Now you can download it for free on your phone.

The prices are high because this is literally First Gen technology. Once they make the headsets wireless and the graphics higher fidelity it will be a wrap. I give it about 4-5 years before it become truly mainstream.

It's still too early to tell man.
Its all going to come down to ease of use, price, and most importantly the games themselves.
I'm a broken record with this topic.
I want it to succeed, but I still think after the hype dies, the preferred method of playing video games will continue to be sitting down with a controller in hand.

I think I have less than the recommended space, but I was still able to play through it. I guess it depends if your boundaries are actual walls, or just furniture (that you can reach over)

you do gotta be careful swinging the controller around though. I already got a white mark on mine from hitting the ceiling :pachaha:

thing is the room scale games are very different from games you play with a controller. I don't see it as something that's gonna replace traditional gaming, but rather it's just something different

Maybe it doesn't have to be an either or situation. Much like watching a film in 2D vs 3D or going to a football game vs watching it at home. I don't think it's competing with the control pad status quo but rather offers a viable alternative. I'm optimistic but it's all on PSVR in the short term due to the greater price accessibility and 30m strong install base.

idk why you keep looking at VR as something that's going to replace televisions.

i don't know why you think you safe cuz reps are disabled.
:sas2:That snitch button still work doe.

But seriously, I think for VR to really take off it has to offer an experience on par with what we currently have.
Never said it can't work, I'm just :old: and I've seen peripherals come and go with the same, if not an even higher level of hype.
I'm not comparing old tech vs new, just that I've seen this sort of hype before fall flat in the end.

Gen 2 or 3, with higher resolution and no screen door effect :wow:

Plus, if they can figure out how to use no wires, it's game over. :wow:
