it began in '99 with the release of the Slim Shady LP. That was followed by 2001 (lets be honest probably the last Dre album we'll ever see or rather that will be relevant). I'd say it ended in 2005 with The Massacre and The Documentary.

Eminem is very hit or miss with me. Most of his songs I cannot relate to whatsoever but I appreciate talent and he had a nice run. Keep in mind I'm not saying in any way that his run has "ended" because he obviously is still moving more units than almost anyone but it's not the same... you listen to the Slim Shady LP or prior to that/right around that time and it's night and day in comparison to his new bullshyt.

2001 is a classic. I was just listening to it again the other day. Some tracks are dated but shyt like "fukk You" with Snoop and Devin and "Big Egos" or even "Xxplosive" are still ridiculous to me.

As much as 50 is hated on now and probably rightfully so, you gotta at least give him Get Rich or Die Tryin' that will be remembered as a classic.

Through the whole era there were maybe 3 classic albums and two that are very good. I will have fond memories of this catalogue but it does not stack up to Bad Boy or Death Row at all..

Dre is a crazy moufukker.

He starters with Nwa, they died and he did his solo shyt and snoops shyt.
Signed Pac, that relationship died. Explored a few things came back with Eminem, Eminem died.
He signed 50, 50 about to die he signs Game. Game dies and he comes out with Kendrick.

For 25 fukking years.

Anyways Aftermath was a great period, the best thing Bout it being that the acts were in their peaks at different stages.. So at any given period he had rappers in their prime.

After The Documentary dropped and it was a certified classic they were by far and away the best thing in music

But right that they very sharply fell off hard after Game left

this was them at their best right here.

50 beefing with everyone in sight, Banks' Father dying and Buck becoming a fiend basically killed it all before. No reason why they should be at the very least able to get release dates at this stage.

Dr. Dre 2001 is the only album I consider classic.

SSLP, MMLP, GRODT and The Doc were great albums but deemed classic due to hype.

i would say it ended around 2008 with terminate on sight. not 2005 when they were clearly still on top and or near it.

T.O.S to me was one of those "be careful what you wish for" for me because i wasnt crazy about the gunit era but what ushered in afterwards made me wish it was still them. I enjoyed the fukkery and antics of the unit truth be told. Then everything turned into a fukking love festival.

After massacre no one was fukking with gunit anymore, 300 bars killed their cool factor like I never seen done before in hip hop

EM was dropping trash like encore, no detox, everyone getting dropped from aftermath (Rakim, Eve, Busta)

I cant agree that 300 bars had any effect on the unit. People who were into the unit were into them until they just moved on. I dont subscribe to the idea that the unit was over after 2005 and massacre when the unit was still relevant up until T.O.S. I was not a big fan of the unit, but nikkas on the reason were stanning heavy up until late 2007 when he lost the war with kanye, like i said, i felt like it was truely over once T.O.S came.

When 50 put his new single out during the de la hoya fight it was still big news in hip hop, i get money etc was poppin so i cant say it was over in 2005.

50 pretty much killed Ja's "cool factor", its a shame because that "Blood in my eye" album was dope, but Fif damaged Ja public persona to the point most rap fans was like :scusthov: :pacspit: about Ja.

Shady/Aftermath dominated the game so hard they had nikkas crying all types of conspiracy theories about Interscope, Jimmy Iovine etc:lolbron:The remnants of which can still be seen to this day on occasion
