How would you handle going from making 50K+ per yr to making $9.00 per hr?

I recently went from making 62k a year, 23k of which was off the books to 39k a year. It's a horrible feeling. And I live in NYC so that 39k is even less than you think. I've been weighing my options heavily lately so I'll definitely do something. But until I figure it out, its fukking horrible. I used to be able to basically go out to dinner when I wanted. If anything was wrong with my car I had the money. Never really had to adhere to strict budget because I had the money. I went on two vacations last year. And I had money left over to save. Now I'm getting by on the balls of my ass and it sucks. Thank God I was good with my money while I was making it because I saved a nice chunk until this storm passes over me.

If you work hard and learn how save and spend properly you can live a comfortable lifestyle. I didn't say a rich lifestyle but a comfortable one.

so, i'm good. if i had to pay mortgage/rent on 8.50/hr, i'd probably be back on the block.

nah, but seriously. too old. but again, my parents are holding me down until i get my feet back on the ground. job market is still tough, but i would rather bust my ass at my current job than sit on my ass and collect unemployment. the pay is shyt, but i got a real nice roof over my head, good food in my belly, and no rent.
to be real, they aren't hiring black men out here unless it's some slave wage bullshyt. i was lucky to have the job (bus driver) i lost.
