I went from making 80+K, then I did a career change that brought it down to 36K then up to 40K after training, and then going on unemployment and the getting a so-so job at 33K (don't want to talk about that ) and now its back up but not in the 80Ks.
It's tough when you have a family. I look back and wonder if I should have done that career change. I don't live large and am very careful with my money so I wasn't doing that bad with a pay decrease.

I'm making 37k base before commission, so I'm close to 50k but I could not see myself doing 9 a hour. Aside from improving your existing skills and learning new ones, having a good network will hold you down most of the time. I can get fired today and have a job by next Wednesday. But even if I can't find a job quick, I do side work fixings computers and iPhones. You always have to have some type of backup plan before you end up in that situation anyways.
