How would you handle going from making 50K+ per yr to making $9.00 per hr?

shiid, i'm just recovering from it. i was making $55k a year, go laid off, and had NOTHING. my wife was already laid off, so we were already struggling, so when i lost my job, we were both sitting on the couch like i applied for unemployment, but my previous job DENIED me lost my house, 2 cars, and had to move my wife and 2 kids to my parents house. then i snagged another job working in oil and gas AGAIN. it was a contract job, but it was for a year and i would be making $19 an hour, so i took it. wifey got a job in social services. so we saved our money, and after 10 months of living off my parents, we were able to lease a house. got into the house and literally a month later, i lost my job AGAIN they didn't renew my contract and didn't give me a heads up. they told me on a Tuesday that my last day was Friday. fukkin' fakkits so i was on unemployment for 2 months which BARELY helped us squeak by, and i got a call for a job. when i went to the interview, i found out that it was another contract job that payed what i was making in unemployment already. but i would have to drive (gas), park in paid parking lots, and eat lunch. after some consideration, i decided to take it anyway because i was tired of sitting on my ass doing nothing. the hospital hired me after 2 months of contracting for them, and paid me $72k a year with all the benefits. a nikka is GOOD right now. so it all worked out. but the down periods HURT a lot....

nah, but seriously. too old. but again, my parents are holding me down until i get my feet back on the ground. job market is still tough, but i would rather bust my ass at my current job than sit on my ass and collect unemployment. the pay is shyt, but i got a real nice roof over my head, good food in my belly, and no rent.

to be real, they aren't hiring black men out here unless it's some slave wage bullshyt. i was lucky to have the job (bus driver) i lost.

Man that's brutal, but at least it worked out in the end. Knock on wood, the last time I was unemployed was in 2005, and I luckily got a job the week my unemployment was scheduled to end. That was a miracle.

Yeah but now u work at a hospital, so u should be stable. I work in healthcare myself for a company that has 12 hospitals out here.

yeah i'm straight. the hospital that i work at is one of the oldest hospitals in houston and is currently building 3 new locations, and opened 5 other locations in the past few years. and i'm doing IT project management, so i'm good.

but i'm still nervous....

Something like that happened to my brother in law was on contract they told him he would be full time, he passed up another job, then the week his contract was expiring they told him it would be his last week and oh yeah my sister is still on mat leave.

Iive in MI...I wasn't making 50,000 or year or anything but I was making like 17.86 a hour full time...job closed down the facility..and I went down to making 9 dollars an hour as a temp! After 9 months got hired making 12.50....about 2 months later I got certified for welding and started out at 14.86....a year and a half later after multiple raises I'm now making 17.50 a hour full time and I got a side hustle that brings me in around 400 a month.

Man, I would have to be on my grind. Me and my wife both. She's an RN so if push comes to shove she can start Travel Nursing again. At the same time, I would either go into selling cars or working in the oil industry. I don't know, but I would definitely getting my hustle on.
