Dude had his own start up as a sophmore and his GPA and testing scores were great. Not sure why he didn't get into the schools...

But its not far fetched to imagine he got into google if he killed the interview and had skills. Big tech doesn't care about experience or degrees as much as smaller companies do. They care about skills and culture fit.

I read a book about college admissions

The people on the admissions board were saying they like having good grades but they also want cool people who contribute to the "culture". Like people who play sports, are social, can party etc.

Having your own startup and great grades at 16 sounds good and productive, but also like a nerd azz dude. They would rather someone with more balance

Asians are notorious for their rote memorization. They got into these tech companies and started mandating that everyone grind leetcode to get in. As other posters mentioned, black folks don't even get an interview but they'll interview any asian immigrant on an H1b that they can and only require that they grind leetcode. Its an entire hustle.

They openly talk about it occasionally:

Here they are lying about diversity hires because they are some of the most anti-black people on the planet. Before the affirmitive action ruling, if you read blind for more than 10 minutes you would have saw dozens of threads about them complaining that they can't get hired because of diversity hires (which we all know is a codeword for black; and a gigantic fukking lie, ain't no black people at these companies). They're saying "black people are more likely to get the interview but dont get hired because they aren't skilled" which is bullshyt.

If you search diversity, you'll find dozens upon dozens of anti-black threads full of asians saying that they cant find a job because of all the "diversity" hires. That magically stopped being a subject for conversation when the AA ruling went through.

If you go to the leetcode subreddit, all the posts are about grinding. They don't even really talk about how to do to the problems, DSA tricks and tips or anything like that. Their mentality is just stfu and grind: Discuss interview prep • r/leetcode.

The whole pipeline is designed by Asians for Asians. Surprisingly, most white people in tech think the whole leetcode thing is fukking stupid (it is) and that it is not a good indicator of how good you are as a software engineer. It just shows that you've grinded leetcode a bunch.

EDIT: teamblind is like 4cac meets old Facebook. It requires a tech company account to sign up and you can see poster's company, but they remain anonymous. It's where they go to talk about the industry without censoring themselves.
I've seen discussions like this on places like Fishbowl (which also requires users to have a corporate email address to access it)

Yes, and that doesn't change what I've said. These companies hire people that have the skills and experience building stuff. It's not common, but it is a fact that the college degree requirement was removed from tech and consulting companies years ago.

Job listings and recruiters must not have gotten the memo :unimpressed:

As I said before. Big colleges aren’t looking for just smart people. Those are your local and state schools who expect you to pass through and hand them a donation afterwards.

Ivy leagues want you to bring something other than yourself with you. Whether it’s a legacy, a large donation from mom and dad, a wicked jump shot, something that stays there with value after you leave. Sitting in the dorm studying can be done anywhere according to them. That is why Asians have a hard time getting into these schools despite being the best in academics

My guess either he or father know someone in Google. Either or, can't get mad at him playing his card right. :manny:

I just took a look myself, and I see the BA requirement in the descriptions on here. I just remember seeing articles about that not being a thing anymore a few years back. Could be an unofficial thing with the listings coming from recruiters tho. I doubt someone who's going after a mid to senior level technical job is going to be grilled over undergrad. They're going to want to see if they can solve the problems put in front of them along with their portfolio.
