Bittersweet. Hubert an overachiever. Wasn't really a sought after recruit out of high school and begged Dean to give him a scholarship. He only got it because of his uncle played for Dean. Waited his turn and became the man his senior year, the got drafted and had a modest 12-13 yr career in the league. Became an ESPN analyst, asst coach, and then head coach. The UNC job wasn't the right job for him as a first time coach, I guess he thought the UNC brand alone would bring in recruits.
I think UNC is behind in the NIL game ( it's getting better) and analytics side of things. His record against other quad 1 opps was subpar for UNC standards. He had some bad losses, but he will always have those 2 final Coach K games.

If we are talking an exciting style of basketball with high level players, UNC fans should wish for someone like Oats, but that buyout

They need somebody who has already been navigating this NIL era. Brad hasn't coached in years and at the position he has now, Celtics already have a title
Some folks think just because someone is in the NBA, it would be a seamless transition since players can be paid now smh
Brad's got a cushy job with the Celtics, is successful... he hasn't coached in 5 years and hasn't coached college in over a decade why would they think this was a good idea or something that Stevens would remotely consider

Brad Stevens was always a pipe dream but it doesnt hurt to call. Billy Donavan is the name I'm hearing the most.

Yeah, I'd set my sights elsewhere. UNC isn't that far off from being back where they usually are. They're a couple yrs removed from the title game and they beat Duke this season. Doesn't take long to "get right" in the NIL era. From what it sounds like they're behind on NIL funding. Get that right and a good coach, they'll be gucci

I always wondered where the funding comes from. Is some of it from donors? If so, that kind of shows the lack of confidence in Davis from the alumni/donors.

The donors never wanted him. They wanted a proven name. I can't say they were wrong, but no one was going to go against Roy.
